Why does Young Generation want to leave Pakistan?

In that context, for some leaving Pakistan may not make sense, if things look like they are about to turn around and their prospects abroad will take decades for their lives to pan out; it won’t be an easy transition. It was for them that I wanted to give the benefits of decades of lived experience to give them a heads up of what to expect if they are planning the move.

That is a very understandable sentiment. What is the gist of what your experience tells others contemplating to move here what to expect? Life is not going to be easy anywhere, but rewards of hard work are easier to come by in certain areas than others, which may provide a large part of the motivation.

Basically yes; aka “go where you are treated best”. Also, get prepared as much as possible before you make the move, to make it easier on yourself and your family. Hopefully those that run Pakistan will realize they have to allow the country to sort itself out so you can return and if not start your new life abroad not assuming you will be going back. Be ready to assimilate abroad, while keeping the good parts of your home culture (and your religion free of cultural baggage) that make you feel like you and impart those to your children. This maybe why many of the younger generation are culturally naive or indifferent and simply just religious or at least just conservative in hopes of just keeping on the straight and narrow and being normal good people.

That formula has applied to generations of immigrants from all over the world who seek a better life, and is nothing new or unique to Pakistanis.

It’s something many people overlook, how much work that will need to be put in and how many years it will take. Also, for the past 20-30 years, America has become less and less a country where you can “pull yourself up by your boot straps” kind of place, no where in the developed world is like that, so don’t think I’m knock the US.

The pattern of past immigrants have been one generation sacrifices so the next generation has a chance at a good life and that is still true.

So, best to be as educated and prepared (economically and psychologically; years of separation from family and your kids growing up differently they you would have thought) as possible to make their own lives as successful as possible, not just their kids.

So back to the topic of the thread. If these people leave, Pakistan can’t expect for them to come back. Plain and simple, once their gone their gone. The well educated or those with only modest education, it will enormous effort in hopes of trying to attract them back.

Also, with cost of living being what it is, Pakistan can’t expect for most of these people to be able to send back significant amounts of remittances. By the time they are able, they and their kids may not want to due to the alienation and mismanagement of Pakistan.

There is a story around dwindling remittances apart from the crooks ruling.

The first generation immigrants would be sending a sizeable savings to their close relatives. As the years go by, the immigrants would be naturalized or have children in the residence country.

This would cause less and less $ to be remitted back to Pakistan and more income spent in the resident country itself.

Add to the fact that, less and less people (comparatively) are able to move abroad which fails to cover the gap.

So there you go.

Even the most extreme cases of people wanting to come back, face a sad reality and do a runner.
GCC resident Pakistani faced a different dilemma
We need to send remittance to Pakistan as eventually will be forced to return

I wonder how many of those advising to stay in Pakistan and make it better are themselves residing in Pakistan-and in which city of Pakistan
There should be a poll for this

Immigration is indeed a chance at a good life as a reward for hard work, as you observe above to be still true, and let us just leave it at that.

So what is the problem here? Pakistan and its system simply has no need for such people. That line from an ex-PM in that famous interview when asked the question about Pakistanis wanting to leave was the blunt truth.

Update : 765,000 Pakistani have left country for employment purposes in previous 7 months. This is sad statistic for non-employment within Pakistan. They have export these masses for not doing enough for average man or women.

Here is the main reason:

That’s one thing the PAF doesn’t lack, skilled and professional aviators. The fact that most Pakistanis keep coming back to this forum and this country in one way or another is that we haven’t given up on Pakistan. If anything the event of this year show that status quo can’t continue like it’s business and usual and reforms like those that happened in many East Asian countries in the 90s will have to happen here as well, sooner or later.

In an another thread I have given the example of Indonesia in 1998 at a GDP Of $95 Billion and its current GDP of nearly $1.2 Trillion. Even the world bank and Goldman Sachs project Pakistan to have a large economy in a few decades.

Pakistan can become a large economy due to large population

The comparison to Indonesia is off base
1. Indonesia has more natural resources per captia than Pakistan especially energy
2. Indonesia is not locked in a fight with its neighbors. In fact they have excellent relationships with ASEAN members
3. Indonesia has much lower military spending

their soil is also very fertile due to the nutrients from volcanic ash

Countries are a false construct anyway, the real loyalty people have is to ones tribe/blood. Many have died for empires in the past, no empire survives forever and blood does. Kudos to them looking out for their families. There will always be an elite and the elite always think in terms of tribe, to them the world is their country. No one should limit themselves. if you can make it out go.

1. Transit trade and value added industries are the ways Pakistan can integrate itself in the supply chains of others. Even if it doesn’t have as much in terms of resources, it’s should built up what it can (such as a mining industry based on Reko-diq) and then use that expertise to do value added business in places it trans-ships resources such as Afghanistan.

2. There are ways to uphold your regional interests and sovereignty without “direct” confrontation with your neighbors. China has found a way to do business with Japan and India without giving up its claims.

3. Military spending will have to be a lower percentage of GDP as the economy grows to allow resources towards economic growth, but Pakistan lives in a hostile part of the world. With a more robust military it can try to ensure security domestically and that should allow investors to feel comfortable to bring FDI. The Pakistan army also plans to lower its head count, in lieu of more advanced systems. Perhaps the added spending can go into industries that will allow Pakistan to build up a civilian industry in that field to offset some of the cost. But in the end, better internal security should keep investors confidence high, such as Chinese investors, and offset the high cost of military spending.

Pakistan has been exporting labor, mostly semi-skilled and unskilled, for decades. Nothing new here.

Large economy is not always akin to sustainability or prosperity. Think of India which is amongst the top ten but has more poverty than SS Africa.

Sustainable economies are usually slow growth and slow decline. You cannot keep growing forever. The Earth is not finite in resources.
