Why does Pakistan need F-16 to fight Taliban?

Because in reality they want to build up their defences against India. US giving pakistan F-16's for no reason is far from happening plus US is also skeptical as to how pakistan could arrange for buying F-16s given the current state of its economy. So there is a deliberate and desperate attempt by Pak to show the threat from taliban as an excuse and ploy to win F-16's. Otherwise by whatever millitary logic, F-16 would never be used against Taliban.

Pakistan faced and checked the joint Afghan/Soviet threat for over a decade, even today, PAF is conducting daily sorties in it's effort with war on terror.
There is no question that the new aircraft and related equipment is being acquired to counter any threat eminating from India. However one could argue that apart from ad hoc operations during the Kargil conflict, when was the last time IAF fired in anger ? hence, why is it accumulating dozens of war planes. ?

First paragraph of the first post on the first page. India's former defense minister and current finance minister couldn't be more wrong.

Last I checked it was a HELLFIRE anti-tank missile that killed Baitullah Mehsud. Last I checked there were two USAF F-16C aircraft dropping LGBs that eliminated Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in Iraq.

Last I checked, it was the same M777A2 howitzers which America is selling to India that both U.S. and Canadian forces are using for lethal and non-lethal fires in support of OEF in Afghanistan and OIF in Iraq.

Last I checked it's U.S. and British AH-64 attack helicopters making daily strikes in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

Shall I go on? It's a damned long list of equipment that refutes the essential thrust of this thread and does so rather easily.

The Taliban may not possess an Air Force or armor and artillery divisions but that does not mean that NATO and Pakistan should not use whatever resources they have at their disposal.

As S-2 pointed out, NATO is using almost all of the vast and technologically advanced military arsenal it has at its disposal. The French are using their Rafales and the US its F-18's, F-15's and F-16's.

Personally I don't care what Pakistan buys or what Pakistan is not buying..its for their defense and they have the right to do so.If they buy some F-16's we can buy weapons much better than it...Its natural that every country make diplomatic protest on the purchase of weapons by the enemy country..you can name it whining,crying or any name you like..but every country is doing it.. ..
