What are your thoughts on how Bangladesh should navigate this mess?
Pragmatically, I would hope BD sends delegations to Muslim and Western countries to put tangible pressure on Myanmar, that includes a re-imposition of sanctions. This actually gets other states from financially and diplomatically backing the Burmese regime. Which in turn actually slows down the ethnic cleansing in Rakhine itself. If there was ever a scenario where sanctions actually helped anyone (I am more often against sanctions) it would be this one.
Also have the IC demand that they give Rohingya autonomy or self-rule. If you don't want to deal with them then let them have their own patch of land and you put up a fence so you don't have to worry about illegals and "Bengali invaders" crossing the border like you keep saying. The idea that anyone leaves BD to move into Myanmar in the last 50 years is beyond laughable, it's pathetic.
Ideally, Bangladesh needs to get ready for a border skirmish. Do everything as noted above, but send in the troops to try to create a Safe Zone which extends into the Kaladan River. That way nobody touches nobody anymore. The Rohingya get to live on a small piece of land, and Myanmar can deport anyone they don't like into the Safe Zone if they don't want them anywhere else.
Any border conflict won't get out of hand because if Myanmar tries to send in planes to target the BD heartland, we could do the same and just take out their whole damn gasfield in Rakhine. They have more to lose. A refugee crisis in BD itself would be disastrous for India and the world at large, so they won't want that to happen. This won't get any more serious than the dozens of border conflicts in other parts of the world that leaves the heartland unaffected.
