What's new

Why do most people on Pakistani news channels call India as "Hindustan"?

The standard word in Pakistani society for india is "india", 99% people on street call "india" as "india" and not as "hindustan". But I have noticed a strange trend among the TV anchors and analysts on Pakistani news channels calling india almost always as hindustan, it just sounds strange to me that 99% people on the street use the word india but majority of the news media anchors use the word hindustan for the country of india. I find it really disgusting because I always feel they try to honor india by calling it as hindustan, they need to stop this rubbish behavior and adopt the word "india" as a default word to refer to the county of india as is the case with common people in Pakistani society.

Simply because the name of the State of India in Urdu is Hindustan. Different languages at times do tend to have their own names for specific countries. Urdu other examples as well; England is Inglistan and China is Cheen. Ironically, Russia is Roos. which is closer to what the Russians call their country.

The simple answer to OP is that British India was partitioned into two separate countries, one decided to name itself Pakistan and one decided to name itself India. The state which decided to name itself India because they wanted to spread propaganda around the world that Pakistan is not a legitimate state as it broke off India and also to keep its masses fantasy alive of Akhand Baharat. Quaid was annoyed by this fact so he never used India instead used Hindustan.

Urdu words for India are Bharat / Hindustan. Common folks start using word India since cricket gain popularity and India media was allowed in Pakistan. So, we need to correct public and return to words Bharat for country, and Bharaties for people living there. Anyway, I prefer our media and public start calling it Gangaland and Gangoos.

Because real name is Hindu-istan. India is a derogatory name given by english men.

They gave india and indians name to barbaric clothless native people of united states when they went there.

And then in south africa they also called them indians.

Then in australia they also called native barbaric people as indians .

Newzland also had indians which englishmen killed in large numbers with superior weapons.

Same in south asia they called them as indians and the country india since they were so so many they couldn't even kill all.

Hence the british india. And indians kept the ne after independence :p:

Muslims and jinnah proposed hinduostan when they were trying for combimed indepemdance.

Well its ur country call it india or hindu-istan its ur choice.

For us its either baharat or hindu-istan.

In English, our name is India. I don't know why this is an issue for someone.

Look your not talking to a ignorant. "Way of life" is just a joke. So is Islam apparently. Now here is the thing. What way of life. If you can't outline it becomes all things to all men. I believe that is how your supreme court concluded. And Sanathan Dharma is the correct name. Hindu as in meaning understood today is of recent invention.

And with regards to India. It is rooted from what is Pakistan. Th Indus. If your from Chennai then you are as far from Indus as a Turk. Finally Romania is not Roman Empire. Even if the name conflates. Non of the India's we have today rooted in the land that gave birth to this name - coterminous Pakistan.

  • Indiana ~ US state
  • Indians [West] ~ Caribean
  • Indonesia ~ formerly called East Indies
  • India
  • etc
Islam as a way of life, is only a joke to those who are incapable of fathoming its depth, and following it.

When did you become an expert in Urdu? We stick to our native language and India is called Hindustan.

It hardly matters; you might as well call us Zimbabwe. We are India that is Bharat, and will remain so.

Official name for India in Urdu is Hindustan.

Who decides an official name? Some media anchor somewhere? Could you not think of a better argument?

It is so nice to read some pompous stuffed shirt being funny; that provides the contrast that makes the genuine, home-grown humour of wits like you so much more satisfying when we read your posts.

Englishmen had nothing to do with it.

They gave india and indians name to barbaric clothless native people of united states when they went there.

Again, no Englishmen were involved. You really must look up your Google sources or Wikipedia or whatever you consult for quick fixes.

And then in south africa they also called them indians.

Wrong again. You are consistent if nothing else.

Then in australia they also called native barbaric people as indians .

Newzland also had indians which englishmen killed in large numbers with superior weapons.

Brilliant. Fault-free performance. Not a single instance correct. This is a 100% score. Are you a PhD student or something?

Same in south asia they called them as indians and the country india since they were so so many they couldn't even kill all.

Ah! Now you're talking!! The only good Indian is a dead Indian!!!

Hence the british india. And indians kept the ne after independence :p:

Yes, indeed, so they did; they also tried for automatic UN membership as having been part of the territory known as India. Sir Mohammed Zaffrullah Khan led the effort; look it up.

Well its ur country call it india or hindu-istan its ur choice.

For us its either baharat or hindu-istan.

SO nice of you!

Caribbean Hindustani
Caribbean Hindi-Urdu

Most of the languages of the diaspora - in Fiji, in Mauritius, in the Caribbean states - are variants of Bhojpuri or Awadhi, both eastern Hindi dialects quite distinct from Khadiboli (Khadiboli is now more or less the central and most influential dialect and is effectively the standard to be followed). These bring back memories of childhood, since Calcutta was full of Biharis speaking either of these.

Before you post on this subject again, do take the trouble to read the original India Independence Act. Many of your misinterpretations will be cleared up.

Just a suggestion.
