Interestingly, you come from The Phillipines, one of the very few countries in the world to forbid contraception. Would you consider this a blessing (avoidance of an aging population) or a curse (overpopulation)?

Looking at the current situation of the Philippines, overpopulation is a curse, specially under the current political system which is influenced by the Philippine's Catholic Church. But for the clergy, it is a "blessing" for them.

The clergy are the "masters" of fear-mongering here in the Philippines - even the most corrupt politicians would bow down to them. If the bishops says that contraception is evil, many Filipinos would believe them, and will spit out the same views. If they say that opening up our economy to the intl. community means enslavement, many Filipinos would believe it.

With an economic restriction policy enshrined in the Philippine constitution (revised back in 1987) that leads to low foreign investments and monopoly of economy by the oligarchs (some of which have ties or even blood relations with politicians) that overpopulation leads to millions and millions of jobless people with the only job available here are mostly "dead-end jobs"; and some being forced to leave the country for "better pastures". Any politicians trying to amend that economic restrictions will receive criticism from other politicians and the clergy, using fear-mongering and demonization tactics.

Heck, the local Filipino clergy even went as far as saying that ideas like family planning and contraception is "evil" and the "devil's work", and I am not making this up
