Why did Egypt betrayed Saudi Arabia and allied themselves with Iran, Russia and Syria?

In 1972, China, the only powerful ally of the USSR, began a rapprochement with America. And defeat of the USSR in Cold War was only a matter of time. After this, in the same 1972, Egypt expelled Soviet military contingent from the country.
In 2016 China and Russia rapprochement became apparent. In 2016 Russian military have visited Egypt for joint exercises.
Perhaps Sisi just knows something we do not know?

Egypt and Jordan will conduct joint military drills next week at Jordan's Armed Forces/Arab Army (JAF) military fields, Jordanian news agency Petra reported.



According to the news agency, a military source said that the drill will last from 5 to 25 November.

The source said that the exercise aims at boosting military cooperation between the armies of the two countries and ensure their readiness to carry out joint missions.

Egypt has carried out 30 joint military exercises in 2016 with 20 Arab and African countries, as well as European countries including France and Russia

In October, Egyptian and Russian paratroopers conducted drills in Egypt's Mediterranean city of Alamein.

It is true that Egypt has taken a more balanced approach towards affairs in ME, but it has not allied with Iran or Syria, far from it. Unfortunately Egypt has lost a huge portion of soft power it had back in 60s and 70s.

I am not entirely sure, I have been thinking on this for a while now...


My best guess is that Egypt is taking steps to align with the people most likely to become the most powerful Alliance in the Middle east.

• In Lebanon with a Pro-Iran President

• Assad having increased control on Syria

• Iraq lining up with Iran and Russia

• Russia's presence in Syria

So far it seems like Egypt wants a piece of what looks like the the most powerful alliance in the Middle East.

That is what I am wondering. Saudi Arabia is increasingly becoming isolated while many nations are shifting toward Iran especially Saudi's biggest nightmare - the int'l community removed the sanctions and approved Tehran to build nuclear weapons.

Iran managed to bring the most significant Arab countries and world powers to their side and encroaching and dominating more lands in the Middle East. To make it more humiliating as it sounds, there are more significant Arab countries who are allied with Iran than Saudi Arabia today. Saudi Arabia's Middle Eastern policies are a failure, are becoming isolated and felt backstabbed by their "allies". In other word, Iran is clearly winning while Saudi Arabia is losing. It will be a game changer in the Middle East especially the Arab capital, Egypt joining the alliance.

The attitude of the Arab Gulf states toward Egypt under President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi is a good example of the insanity of considerable parts of the Arab world, whose twisted suicidal reasoning is unclear to many people outside it.

Given the American wipeout in the Middle East, leaders of the Persian Gulf states are very well aware that the only support they can expect against the expected Iranian aggression on the Arabian Peninsula comes from Egyptian military might.

Russia is also no longer "isolated". They created alliance after the annexation of Crimea and I have noticed many eastern countries especially the Muslim dominated ones have joined or willing to join Russia in the last few months. Russia seems to be rushing to find many alliance as they could. I wonder why? Does this have to with the US election and Hilary Clinton?

The same goes for China where growing numbers of countries in Asia are willing to join China and leave USA which gives them the confidence to consolidate more power in the Asia Pacific. Is this the end of US's global domination?

Even the US led NATO is disintegrating. With Turkey becoming more pro-Russia and Europe becoming divided over leaving EU and wanting to form their own military union and become dependent on themselves.

Interesting times ahead.

Pakistan was with GCC countries, is with GCC countries and will be with them in the Future..

China is our Friend and Partner from 60's and this is not a new alliance.

Iran was first country to recognize and be Friend with Pakistan. Even After Islamist revolution in Iran Pakistan was the one of few countries which support Iran during Iran-Iraq war. There were ups and down in the relation but still are good relations. IF you remember it was Pakistani President(Asif Zardari) which openly stated that If Iran is attacked by the West over Nuclear issue, we will support Iran Because we don't want another Afghanistan in our Neighborhood.

Russia and Pakistan relation is growing because they are sensing that US/West is not interested in Containing Terrorists rather they use them as a tool of war to destroy their Opponent countries(Libya,Syria,Iraq,Sudan,Iran). And the way they destroy the Afghanistan and Iraq is front of everyone. And Afghanistan is the only country which border with Both(Russia and Pakistan) Countries and America is there and almost everyday a new terrorist group is being made and their sole agenda is to enforce sharia law only in Pakistan and free Muslims from Russian Federation.
The interesting thing about these terrorists group is that they consider US/WEST as an Evil and devil but they are only fighting with Muslims countries with the weapons and ammo which are mostly made in US/WEST.

America never was a good ally. People look at the regimes like the shah of iran and Zia's Pakistan which have been close to US and suffered only ruin because of it. US is at best an unreliable ally. It will take decades for us to understand that we have been played by the US. from Presler Amendment to nuclear deal with India.

US is following her own interest there is nothing wrong in it.
the wrong thing is that we never pursue our own interest rather following the interest of other countries.

not only that China is largest or one of the largest trade partner with GCC, dont know why people making it Iran vs Saudi, while its clearly east vs west aka China/Russia vs US and allies.

They spent billions during 4 decades and every city has foot prints of the gcc investment.
hospitals, schools, roads, mosques. even if you go in jungle there will be some nice mosque.

Wow that King Faisal Mosque looks real good. I think they could have spent less on it and invested in factories for Pakistan. I am pretty sure they have invested a good amount but what you going to do eith a Billion dollars church when kids have to work in factories. Same goes for Iran or poor Muslim nations. What good does a mosque when you can't feed your children? Iranians get to have big mosques too and yet many have no jobs or go hungry. To be clear, I have not seen Iran or Pakistan but my thinking applies.

I think the House of Saud should invest in KSA only or the GCC. Let ungrateful beggars find another donor. Money/investments should only be done in cooperation with trustful allies and grateful people. Not those who will smile at your face when they need money but afterwards curse you or not respect you. I wish KSA would let the Iranian Mullah's waste their money on foreign groups and parties.

KSA should adopt an isolationist policy in the Muslim world and solely invest in the West, Africa and East. Nothing good comes out from the current Muslim world I have concluded. We don't owe anybody anything in the Muslim world. The situation is rather the opposite.

Plenty of things should be done at home first.

I guess most Iranians feel the same in regards to their Mullahs. At least we should be able to agree on this one.
