Why can't India/Pakistan/China/Bangladesh be as clean as Australia?

Australia is the most pristine, beautiful, gorgeous country on the planet, we are good at almost every sport, and we love the great outdoors. With a population of only 23.13 million, yet we are competitive in every field be it sports, technology, science, health, research we are up there with the best.

The question is why can't other nation in Asia use Australia as a example? Why is it so hard in these nation for people to not litter, or defecate in the streets?

I think China is quite clean,not as clean as Japan,but clean.Have you come to China ever?

1. Australia has only 23 million population with a land area of 7.6 million square km. The places on earth with less of a population density would be Saharas or Antarctica.
2. Australia doesn't have much of an industry. It is a mainly resource exporting nation. While it can somewhat compare to India, it is nowhere near the level of China.
3. Australia's research is nothing to write home about. It actually publishes less scientific paper than India, let alone comparing to China.
4. In term of sports, Australia did better than India in 2012 Olympic, but nowhere near the level of China.

In summary, if the intention is to demonstrate the greatness of your nation, be sure to not pick nations are out of your league.

Joke aside but still, the truth is Australia is not as clean as it used to be, most of the problem related to recent immigrant. I was once told rubbish need to go to the bin by an elder aussie in a food court even tho I am the only one in my group that bus my own table.. the other just get up and leave...

Actually, the pure quantity of number of published journal does not reflex the quality of work of academic research of a country, it just mean you published more paper than other.

In academic research, publication is one thing, the quality of your research is another. The problem with Australia is that, we have a small, a LOT smaller population than in China, and by that definition, we would have less academic scholar than China (I think I read it somewhere China have about 50 million accredited researcher, that's more than 2 times the population of Australia) and about 15 to 20 million student enrolled in Higher Education in China every year, there bound to have more published than in Australia, that's not physical capable for Australia to over-publish China.

But when you talk about research value, you need to look at the H-index, which is a more or less standardize indexes for productivities and citation impact of published work. That mean a ballpark quality of a published article.

And China's air quality? Is a disgrace one of the most polluted countries on Earth, in straya we actually care about the environment.

Not really, Australia's renewable accounts for about 11 percent of its total power generation (counting hydro)

I don't know why you get the impression Australia's industry is "clean". It may generate less pollution overall, but that's because it is underdeveloped. Just like an agrarian nation may generates less pollution than an industrialized one, no one would actually call that progress.

The fact is, clean energy is a result of technological and economical advancement, hence why countries like China, US and Germany may generate more pollution than underdeveloped countries like Australia, their composition is cleaner. Of course, the cleanest country in the world as far as energy production goes is actually France with its close to 80% nuclear generation, but that is a situation unique to France and can't be replicated elsewhere.

The thing is Australia simply can't afford to keep its energy and industry clean because resource exportation based model of economy doesn't yield as much return comparing to advanced manufacturing based economies like China and US. Its low level of industrial development and low population also means it is difficult to justify the necessity of renewable development, hence why Australia is lagging behind in renewable development even though it should have comparable solar and wind potential to China and US.

The whole comparison of ultra-low population density nations like Australia and high population density nations like China, India and Pakistan is stupid in the first place. You want China to be "like" Australia? Fine, give China another 400 million square km of territory (which will give China the same population density as Australia), I can guarantee you China would be way cleaner than Australia by a long shot.

Small population is not an excuse. The scientific advancement of a nation is measured by total output. Just like military spending is determined by total amount, not per capita. The problem of H-index is already clearly seen in its definition:

This means a paper written in Chinese is heavily discriminated due to the simple fact it is written in a language other than English.

Australia has 2% of the population of India in a area 2.5 times bigger than India. This turns out to be a population density Just 1 against more than 100 of India. So it should be very difficult for us to maintain that level of cleanliness but we have a huge scope of Improvement in this area. We need to change our mindset also. I just visited Pune and Bombay. When I came back to surat, All appeared lot more cleaner to me. As Modi has said, we as a citizens should determine to keep our environment clean then our country can not be dirty.
