Why Are Russia And Vietnam Increasing Military Cooperation?

Is this because of China fearing another Marshall Lin Biao?
Either ways, I think Vietnam is more of a Soviet model, where Party members are in the army, and army members are in the Party.
党指挥枪/the party commands the guns, this is the rule adopted since the birth of the PLA in 1927.

“More of a Soviet model”, this sounds like a curse. Remember, the mighty soviet army did nothing to save his country from chaos and separation in 1990/91.

If they didn't step in, it would have been much worse tbh. The Army did protect Russia, and Putin and his supporters mostly come from the army.
The issue is back then, the Soviet Army truly believed it shouldn't concern itself with civil purposes, well the PAVN is not repeating that mistake.

Same as us then.
Most if not all all the big guys in PAVN are Party members.

No, I think vietnamese barely make the distinction, except maybe some even think the army is less corrupted LOL
The Party is much bigger, more people, more corruption.

China is the same. Our army has a better reputation than the government.

But the Chinese still disagree that the army is not under absolute control. We have a lot painful lesson in history.

BTW: I respect the Vietnamese government. They are bold and fearless and full of confidence in themselves. They dare to sign any free trade agreement, TTP, RCEP, EVFTA, UKVFTA, etc. This is the courage and confidence that a country that has gained independence through war should have. At the same time, a superpower that achieved independence by begging behaves like a timid old woman, it is a disgrace to Asians.

In Vietnam history, it was actually the reverse LOL many times the king becomes corrupted and the army has to take command in to beat the enemies.
Such as Thái hậu Dương Văn Nga passing the throne to General Lê Hoàn to beat the chinese invaders.
Our last king, Bảo Đại, was laughed out because he didn't have an army (unlike the Viet Minh), so nobody takes him seriously.

The CIA does covertly what the government is unable to do overtly. The CIA fights wars without the knowledge of Congress, routinely participates in assassination of foreign leaders, and are generally dicks while causing worldwide mayhem.

No need to arm up now, Vietnam isn't looking for a fight.
When in peace time, and you spend too much on military, you ruin the country.

The money you poured into the defense industry would only bear fruit at least after a decade and it doesn't end up in the drain but back in the economic cycle.
you can't be expecting the factory to come up with something in a month before you going to the war if you don't invest now, right?

Vietnam terrain heavily focus on infantry combat, and it's mostly infantry combat that will be mattering in the defense.
And currently Vietnam can manufacture small arms and missiles, which are more than enough for defense purpose.
