What's new

Why and how does Japanese entertainment become so poor in recent years?

They play global folks , too, but due to the english level skills (some have thick accent or speak english with intermediate level skills ; they will remain silent when they play). But yes, they do play online.
Hey @Nihonjin1051 , the Japanese players should play Blade and Soul if they haven't already. By the way, if your entertainment industry wants to become globally dominant, I suggest Japan start creating animes of online games that many of us in the West are anticipating......(Example below). Maybe should create anime of World of Warcraft, Halo, and Call of Duty. LOL

LOL! So true , buddy. When i was in Cebu (Philippines) couple of summers ago, i took a boat trip to an island called Daanbantayan it was a local boat the folks call 'Banka', anyways, it was a group of us Japanese tourists on the boat. Mostly in the late 20s, 30s and early 40s age group of Japanese tourists -- we were heading for a dive spot. We dove -- our dive master had us in the water for an hour or so, surfaced, then dove back down to another dive spot which they called "Black Forest" because of the large amount of corals and sea cucumbers in the dive spot; beautiful area, beautiful. Anyways, after the dive, most of our group were famished and the dive master was recommending we take the boat back to mainland Cebu, but that was too far away. Most of the Japanese tourists (specially the women) were already complaining of feeling light headed, needed food, needed sugar; so our dive master and tour guide took us to a local eatery in some of the towns in Daanbantayan Island. It was one of those restaurants that are jotted up by the bay, fresh fish, fresh everything. I guess the dive master was hesitant to take us to a 'non-4class restaurant' for fear of letting us eat local food, which is rubbish. Anyways, we loved it, we had authentic Cebuano-style food ; a dish that i learned to love include "Kinilaw" (its similar to ceviche), they served us fish tinola (its a soup based broth with chicken, bakchoy, chinese celery, string beans, ginger, tamarind), then they served us fried snapper, a soup broth composed of sea bass --- the dish is called "Tinola Isda". OMG, seriously, most of the Japnaese tourists -- after that food --- really loved and i mean love love authentic Filipino food. Not only the food, the people were very friendly, they were singing for us as we ate, local kids were even doing karaoke and dancing -- impressive!!

For Japanese, we appreciate genuine feelings, genuine culture, genuine people. And it leaves a long lasting , permanent impression for Japanese.

well, what i meant is really something that has the Pro and Cons. sure the Japanese loves people that loves them, but they didn't know much about them either. in Indonesia's case, the people and the country were seen as the Ultra Pro-Japan country in the world, ever. i didn't know where did they get this informations from. both the Indonesians and Japanese doesn't know each other well. common Indonesians always view Japan as country with Fantasies and Miracles, whereas Japanese views Indonesia from Bali perspective and it's Ultra Pro-Japan move. not everyone is Pro-Japan, yet it is true that Japan is the biggest partner with Indonesia.

i don't think Indonesia or Japan regards each other as Friend. for as long as Japan has any Business with Indonesia, they'll stay close. culture-wise, Japan mostly covered things in Indonesia than China or Korea. however, they also have fair share of people whos looking down on third world countries, but their numbers aren't as BIG as those from China or Korea. common Indonesians would prefer to Choose Japanese over Koreans or Chinese. but then again, they only know things that represents Japan (Doraemon, Aikatsu, JKT48, etc), and so does Japan.

Btw, here is Daanbantayan Island:

A view of the local food eatery we went to ,

It was in Barangay (village) Mayaa

And the kinds of fishes we ate (this is why i love, love, love Philippines, specially Cebu -- is due to the abundance of such kind of rich fishes..!)

@prima99 --- this is what i was talking about --- "kinilaw" !!! Love it !! Do they have something like this in Indonesia?

Fish tinola,

we are vastly different than Philippines despite we are of the same Austronesian Race. the national food is gado gado.

i can't name any Fish Soup since there isn't any exact Fish Soup dishes around. i know there are one or more of them, yet i have limited infos about it. as for fishes, it usually served with spices like Tuna Asam Padeh

Martabak Terang Bulan

Japanese entertainment has been popular before 2000
after that, it is becoming weaker and weaker in influence outside Japan.
Nowadays, Japan only has influence in anime
its dramas/movies and music are not so popular in Asia, far behind Korea.

You forgot the japanese pron :/
Whats your opinion on this? Before and after 2000?

I didn't know japanese banned foreign IPs , that's so racist of them , anyhow good luck on your personal quest !

nah.. i won't call IP banning as racism. they just have some kind of isolationist attitude. if we look positively into it, it helps to prevent the site from flooded by overseas trolls. you might know where this trolls comes from. they're infesting this forum too.

but yeah.. it's sad that i had to use VPN to buy more Japanese stuffs online. some of their sites also blocks web proxy. it probably gets harder for foreigner to access their websites in the future.

The same for Hong Kong.

I really enjoyed the old Anime series like Berserk, Trigun, Fushigi Yuugi, Neon genesis and Nadesico. Then came the dreaded year 2000 and everything went downhill. Animation looks even worse and cheap and the characters look more and more generic. The old days like the 80s and 90s were best for Japanese animation.

Remember GTO? It came out in 2000 and was (in my opinion) the best Anime series ever. A final bang of glory before the shit storm of mediocrity, pretentious crap and half arsery.

Ahhh yes... GTO was an all-time classic! Pretty much was a slice of life combined with lots of comedy and action. The anime showed some interesting aspect of Japan's social issues and some of the hardships, the youth of some of Japan's social lower classes have to go through. GTO really showed a depressing image of Japan's social underbelly, but despite all the misery, we have this blonde-sprayed, obnoxious and not-so-smart pervert with a golden heart who wants to help out the weak in whatever way he can!

Nowadays, the average anime just can't seem to survive without the necessary ecchi and almost hentai-like situation for amusement and entertainment value. Almost half of the animes is about a seemingly loser, with some untapped potential or some crap and who manages to get a harem at the end of the day. With animes like To-Love-Ru and Highschool DxD taking this to the max. And even the most popular animes out there atm like Naruto, Bleach, Fairy Tail and One Piece can't seem to go without the occassional semi-nudity as well. Not that I mind some curved anime girls from time to time, but you get my point. :3

Robotics;Notes as well. Basically all three are adaptions of visual novels by Nitroplus, but only Steins;Gate really pulled it.

I tried watching before a lot of japanese music videos and they are so weird, you will definitely fear for your mental health.
