The most common indicator used to measure well being of a nation is Per Capita Income. But it does not reflect the true picture of an Economy and the standards of living of its people.

A Country's True Worth is the Industrialization of the Country.

For Comparison Purposes, 3 Countries are considered in South Asia.

India (1.21 Billion, $3,663)

Pakistan (190 Million, $2,786)
Bangladesh (170 Million, $1909)
Sri Lanka (21 Million, $5,664)

A Persons Quality of Life is defined by the Electricity Consumption, Steel Consumption, Infrastructure Spending etc.

India despite having 60 times the population of Sri Lanka and 7 Times that of Pakistan and Bangladesh, on Per Capita Basis an Average Indian has Many Times Higher Per Capita Consumption in all the Parameters than the above Countries.

An Indian has 5 Times Higher Electricity Consumption than a Bangladeshi and Twice that of Pakistani and Sri Lankans, also Twice the Per Capita Steel and Cement Consumption than the others. Also, Health Expenditure Per Capita is More than Twice of that of Pakistanis and Bangladeshis. Infact, They have less than Afghanistan.

All the Data has been collected form Reputable Sources:

1) List of countries by GDP (PPP) per capita - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

2) Health expenditure per capita (current US$) | Data | Table

3) High cost of business weighs on steel millers

4) Cement industry ripe for foreign investment: Barua

5) List of countries by electricity consumption - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Its just another way of looking at things. But I don't believe this means an Indian's quality of life is better than its neighbours. But it does indicate higher industrial activity.

Sri Lanka is better than us on important parameters like literacy rate, GDP per capita, HDI, etc.

So we still gotta long way to go...:agree:

U are absolutely right, but any indian would get motivated to open such a thread after seeing pak & BD guys obsession with poor India tag.

i believe both poverty and prosperity are visible things. if you are prosper it doesnt need convincing neither if a country has more poverty than other you need not to convince the world otherwise.

what all you can prove that poverty is reducing and life is getting better but you cant just claim that since steel consumption is higher in India so Indians have better living than any other asian country

basic necessities of life----food, clothing, shelter and means of traveling;
food: food and water, Medicine...
clothing:....
shelter:toilet, Electricity supply,house....
traveling: bike or car or Public transit......

Quality of life of Indians is second in Indian Subcontinent behind Sri Lanka, that's a fact.....

but according to some Pakistani,Chinese and Bangladeshi its worse than Liberia, and since its pdf, it is a principle law of physics which will always remain constant even after 21st Dec 2012
