The dictatorships didn't exactly help. It's one of the reasons that the political system is screwed up. If it wasn't for the military ruling then Nawaz sharif would have never been so popular nor would Sindh be saying "Bhutto zinda hai."

During the army's tenures the economy and the country did relatively well but the trouble was that they sowed seeds that would help them (in their eyes) control the country even if they weren't in power.

Due to this, even if they want to get rid of all corrupt politicians and then step back they can't because many people have dirt on them like NS. Many of them started playing politics and ended up corrupt.

These days they're trying to reverse everything that their predecessors screwed up on. If I were them I would admit the mistakes that they have committed and start some reconciliation process. There's nothing wrong with saying you messed up.
