yeah i can remember a book i used to read where it was mentioned that the adversary used to think Muslims are magicians, they spell and something comes underneath the water, hit the ship and the ship get destroyed.

Muslims did invent and contribute towards science as long as they were in Power. Nowadays it is hard for me to find any real muslim in this world, let alone the inventions

lets not give credit for work done mainly by rational empiricists to religion. a very large chunk of inventors, engineers, physicists, chemists etc have been agnostic / atheistic.

today, a very small % of top scientists believe in god.

The case is different with the Islamic civilization or the so called "The Golden Period" - the amount of work done in that time is so immanence that now western researchers though unwillingly want to call it "The Islamic period" because this word takes everything into the account.

Moreover the Holy Quran stresses more on research and less on worship which comes in handy.

I must not undermine the contributions of atheists to science - should i say science has got nothing to do who you are but it has a link what what you believe in.

I am not undermining the islamic invention.

Yes you are.

What is greatness to mankind by inventing Torpedo?

Depends on how you use it - PNS ghazi used it to defend Pakistan - first ever use of Torpedo after WWII.

BTW they could not even discover oil under them for 1500yrs.

I feel ashamed that we didn't.

Much of our knowledge was destroyed in Iraq after the Barbarians captured it and after the Muslims were Driven out of Spain so much of the knowledge Developed by the Muslim civilization is Unknown.

We are doing the best we can to break the stereotype-one day we will contribute again as much as we did in the past in SciTech.

Oil was discovered 2000 years ago in Iraq and had been used extensively as fuel. The rapid usage of oil now a days has pushed it very deep below earth surface. Earlier it was easily discoverable during digging of water well and used to be much lighter.

The issue is not so much whether the inventors themselves were practising muslims.

The lesson we should take from this period of history is not to lose ourselves in backward-looking escapism, but to realize that scientific discovery and technological excellence are not incompatible with muslim civilization. It happened before and there is no reason why it should not happen again.

In other words, Islam does not forbid scientific knowledge. (psst, somebody tell the mullahs.)

Muslim nations are no longer economically or politically stable. You need that for scientists to prosper and grow.

In fact some might say that Science was magic before the Muslim empires put it into practical use. The Christian empires had discarded so much science, dismissing it as heresy and black magic. The tides turned for Muslims when they showed their ability to put pagan science (black magic) from three main sources (India, China to the east and Greece and Egypt to the west. The fall of Alexandria was key here, their huge libraries all came under Muslim review and instead of dismissing this it as a sin, Muslims put it to good use.

The mullahs know this but they are forigen agents intent on keeping muslism youth away from science and tech. so their goals are exactly opposite.

Largest contributions to Islamic era science and tech came from Persian, Egyptians, Central Asians and China men. All of these countries today are in political turmoil. :cheesy:
