We all know of this architectural beauty called red fort where every year on our Independence Day Prime Minister hoists red flag, today I stumbled on some conflicting details regarding its construction and ownership.

1) This is a painting displayed at Bodleian Library, Oxford, which says Red fort existed in 1628.

2) Wikipedia and other sources claim that red fort was built 20years later, in 1648.

3) further digging revealed, that Prithviraj Chauhan used to live in a palace called Lal-Kot, on the bank of Yamuna.

4) Britishers played their part in hiding the original plaster.

So who really built Red fort???

Fascinatingly portrayed as mystery indeed, but the truth is quite banal - Mughals mostly over what could have been a pre-existing structure.

. . . . .
ill try to do more reading into this, there has to be something somewhere...Nice catch

.
I will call it renovation. :)

Semantics my friend, dangerous in implication and scope though. Would advice you to tread carefully as it has obvious connotations to Babri Masjid/Ram Temple issues and others.

Never mind, I am jaded i think

had it not been you, I would have assumed that somebody was emotionally blackmailing me into silence.
Lol

Statistically speaking contrary to conventional wisdom, men thrive on emotional manipulation much more then women.

My demon wife who also happens to be a psychiatrist never fails to mentions it during our many arguments :(

Revealed: 3 secrets of the Red Fort which will shock you! - daily.bhaskar.com

-The Red Fort was originally white:

The ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) has found traces of Mughal lime plaster (mixture of lime, gum, bael fruit and marble dust) on some parts of the fort. The original plaster is believed to have either faded or painted over by the British. While restoring the fort, ASI plans to use Mughal lime plaster on those parts that were white.
