Who Are the Yezidis Who Galvanized International Support in Iraq?

oneworld.am

We came from India, from Bombay, 5,000 years ago. In my book I scientifically prove this. In those days in India we were considered to be Malek Tavous [The Grand Peacock] people. The Peacock is considered to be a sign of beauty, and it is the same in India. We have castes in our nation, and the same is true in India.

The Yezidi emigrated from India to Afghanistan, and from Afghanistan into Iran and, lived in Iraq, and in Syria. In Iraq we started to call ourselves "Yezidi". Before then we were "the people of Malek Tavous". Yezidi history dates back 5,000 years

According to this source, the people called Yazidis are only Kurdish speaking, but not Kurdish in ethnicity. Have they been assimilated by Kurds or what? Care to enlighten us?

There are conflicting views some declare they are Kurds some declare by religion and ethnicity they are Yezidis, a distinctive ethnic group. As to assimilation with Kurds, not sure , most likely Kurds were ex Yezidis (the golden sun emblem with 21 rays in Kurdistan flag reflects Kurdish history based upon the native Yazdani religious tradition )

According to Yezidi tradition (possibly influenced by other sources) , they were originally from Syria/ South Turkey, who dispersed to many countries after the great flood - 4000 BC .

Zoroastrian roots ?
Yazidis are sometimes classed with Zoroastrians, as they have retained from ancient times or re-borrowed some practices and concepts from the Zoroastrians. The name comes from the ancient city of Yazd in Iran, which still has an operating Fire Temple.
Others tie the name Yazidi to an old Avestan word yazata for "angel." It may be helpful to note here that the name the Yezidis use for the Supreme Being is Yazdan

There was also the German Yazidi Girls killed by her brothers because she was in a relationship with a German. So how many we don't know about. Not saying that they deserved to be murdered by ISIS, however they surely are not a "Gentle" Community as the world is trying to paint them to be. Extremely Xenophobic.

Not doubting the news. I could list a multitude of similar news from my country's muslims who have done the same on an enormous scale. Blaming the whole community or their religion can not be done. Granted I accept their whole community does not like intermingling with muslims. Still can not bulldoze a whole community just because of their social preferences or religious bigotry. They dont like muslims, the maximum muslim response can be to not like them back. Anyone guilty of using violence or force to show their hatred should be dealt with in the boundaries of the law.
