I never thought I'd see the US government take such strong public stances against Israel. Slowly but surely the tide is turning. The Iranian deal is imminent and the Israelis prescribe nothing but more war. A war to be fought by America of course since they can't take on Iran on their own. Polls show more anti Israeli sentiments especially among democrats and the 18-30 age group. Netanyahu throwing his lot in with the Republicans has made supporting Israel a more partisan issue. The evangelicals from whom the Israelis draw the most support are a withering force judging by the last 2 general elections. If the Israelis were smart, they would push for a final peace with the Palestinians in good faith asap, while they are in a position of strength. They will not be in such a position forever.

If the terms are too weak, it becomes so much easier for Israel to push the next president to go to war. Netanyahu for his part is eager to claim that the fact of Iran's agreement to a deal itself means the terms are weak.

The Black vote was only 12% with less than 60% turnout. They were over represented because of the low turnout. The Republican candidate was crap, but they are the ones who picked him in the primaries so that's their problem. I don't think there has ever been a Democrat weaker than Obama was in 2012, with all the unpopular things he did like the healthcare reform and all the hysteria against him, and still the Republicans couldn't beat him. Republicans are a fading force so I am glad Netanyahu is siding with them. He's made Israel a partisan issue.

Why should we care who rules in Syria and whether or not its a democracy? It doesn't help us one bit. I can't make sense of US foreign policy, but I do know for sure that it only benefits Israel and GCC countries afraid of Iran. AQ has killed many more Americans than Hezbollah.
