Which ASEAN Country Will Become The World's Next Manufacturing Hub?
Source: Which ASEAN Country Will Become The World's Next Manufacturing Hub?
I know there was this thread already, but because:
1, that Thread is now into garbage time with all those unrelated arguing,
2, I personal think "Which ASEAN Country Will Become The World's Next Manufacturing Hub?" is a false Proposition.
Hier is why(This is my personal idea and parden me for my poor English.):
In fact if we talking about "next Manufacturing Hub", I will not even think about any ASEAN countrys in like 30 years. The only choice is maybe India.
In my opinion, Manufacturing Hub need 3 elements: Resource, Population, Market.
Population is important because it provide the workers, and also you can't just hold the big Manufacturing only depands on your outside market.
There used to be UK, US, Japan, German, China.
UK is the first one because the Industrial Revolution happened there, and UK as the empire on which the sun never sets, has all three: Resource, Population, Market. After the fell of the empire, now UK is also no more there.
US after that take the place from UK as a Inherit, because America is also in the Anglo-Saxon culture with UK, because the contibute in WW1 and WW2. And also the global market, which is secrute by all the american oversea bases. But the global trade dream lead american to the way of Deindustrialization.
Then is Japan. Japan has the work hard culture, and also exchange his own national security with america, get the US protected resource and market.
German is a little like Japan, but also a little different. German with French build the EU, which provide German the solid dreaming place, included exchangeable Source, Humanresouce and a big free Market. EU fall will make German fall.(Resource, Market are also the reasons why German and Japan start the WW1 and WW2.)
China has Resource, Population, Market already, but with the help of WTO, china can achieve everything quicklier and better. But I think China is still not "Manufacturing Hub", rather surrounding it with Japan and German, though maybe closer than the other two.
In this case, I can only see India has the potential, because India has already Resource, Population, Market. But India has also problem. I'm not sure the future Manufacturing still will be the population intensive. If Industrial Revolution happens again, India will have a big problem to provide enough food and also enough work to the people, not mention with the competition of China, because China has also a big population to feed, which means China will not give up esaily.
As Thailand or Vietnam or Indonisia, the problem is they have not Resource or Market. Because ASEAN is not even a little like EU, even 30 years later from now. In this case for example Vietnam want to be a be a "Manufacturing Hub", has to give up something to exchange the protection of resource and a open market(no one will open it for total free). And the otherside of this exchange can only be USA, EU or China, which can provide a big enough market for a "Manufacturing Hub". And the TPP is not this kind exchange, TPP will help Vietnam, but not big enough to suport Vietnam to be a "Manufacturing Hub".
