security concerns
Rubbish. Israel is the world's most security concious country on earth. Try fly their airlines. They are paranoid and for good reason. Guess what? Every square inch of the country is covered by Google Street. USA, UK, France have recieved massive terrorist attacks. Guess what? Every square inch including the most frequented tourist spots that are open to the world are covered by Google Street View.

And strangely all the famous location in India that might attract terrorist attacks are covered with extensive fixed photographs offering 360 degree views. This is where your argumant falls flat but Google Street View that might show us what rest of ordinary India looks like is banned/ Strange.

Terrorist A-list targets like this in New Delhi are covered by 360 degree images and map. Click on the link below. I can use that image to even count number of security police and the cordon around the government buildings. But we dare not see rest of Delhi in case terrorists attack the slums.

I know. People are the problem. The majority. A society is defined by the majority. And the lower income familes are Pakistan because they make 75% of it or perhaps 125 million.

Going back to Bangladesh I think they have developed a healthy go forward attitude minus the bragging and bluster that is hallmark of Indians. This endears a quite confidence. Others may brag but silently the Banglas are moving forward by getting their fundamentals sorted out.

A fine example of brag and bluster? Think US. Think information age. Think IT. Think Silicon Valley. Think Google. Who comes to mind. India of course right? A day will not go without Indians reminding us of some Indian IT techie or that CEO of Google is Indian. Now think of Google Street View. This allows anybody to prod around a country and get to really see what it is like on the ground. There might be five things that might stop your country featuring on Google Street view.

1. Your country has archaic privacy laws that Google avoids because it will land itself in all sort of legal tangles. Think Saudia.

2. Your country has political issues with Google home country - USA that preclude it. Think China, think North Korea.

3. Your country is known as suffering from terrorism and political instability that Google does not feel comfortable scooting around in because of safety.

4. Your country is so low on Googles global vision that it's going to be a while before they show up in your neck of woods. Think Niger. Think Burinidi.

5. Your country is so full of crap that after having gone around the world croaking how great it is you do not want to get seen with your pants down on candid camera. So you prevent Google doing a street view by creating legal or administrative hurdles.

So I checked up to see how my 5 point criterion fared. Guess what China is not on Google Street view. Neither is North Korea. No surprises. Pakistan. No. Again no surprises given our reputation as terrorism central. Anyway exactly how many people go to Pakistan from abroad or have interest in going to Pakistan. I have landed at Islamabad Airport and you might see few faces that are not Pakistani.

Now how about India. Google has Indian CEO. India is one of top countries that get listed as the favourite destination. India ellicits huge interest in the world. Millions of foreigners go to India on holidays. All this would place India as a 'must' for Google Street View. Guess what?? It is not on it. What it does have is the individual photos that of course are provided and as such will garner a edited look at the country. This is like going to a country and having a minder who only allows you to visit location that he decides.

Now here is the surprise. Bangladesh. Would you believe this Bangla has full on Google Street View so you can see it "good, the bad and ugly". I was most surprised about that. My respect for Bangladesh went up. It can't have been easy for the authorities to give permission as the Google Camera catches everything as it goes zipping into every nook and cranny of the country.

Now I wonder why India did not allow the Google candid camera? MMmmm maybe right to privacy? Yes of course. It was not because it would expose the truth behind the shining developing India songs.
We have baidu street view and qq map street view, welcome to check!

Some country is a big sh*thole.
You want make tourists to find out on their own instead of checking those disgusting street views at home.

Your argument is rubbish. Security perception is different in different countries. India has massive population with a vulnerable security situation (150+ police per one lakh Indians not to mention the corruption). While most of those countries you mentioned are developed countries with better policing. Knowing the place do not make much difference. But that gives an enormous advantage in India (Effectively used during Mumbai attacks, as the testimony of Headly), forget google street view. Zoom in to any place in India, irrespective of it's developed or poor, you will not see the same image clarity(20M or more) when you look at US.

As of Israel, well that's a country were conscription in Mil is followed for women and men, where people walk like this.

Thanks and it will be a pleasure to see the real China. Street view offers a un-edited look at a country. Uploaded images can be selective but Street View offers the chance to go around into every nook and cranny in the country. And just to blow @SOUTHie suggestion that Google Street View is banned in India I just checked New Delhi. It offers photographs. This is a way to edit content. If I was a terrorist I could easily check out how much security police is posted in sensitive [but fancy looking government buildings built by British] areas of New Delhi but I can't check out the local slum in case I attack them.

All major sites in New Delhi have images attached to the location. There goes the "terrorist" excuse. But hey they look pretty. Street View would spoil the cherrypicking.

I will wager here that Pakistan will get some form of street view before India does. They are going to hold back until they clean the place up after few decades.

Too much religion, too little reasoning.
Das Fuhrer where did your "reasoning" go in 1939? Hint: Things can change.

You r right.

I prefer street view or 720 degree photos.

Well what meant is you can choose to upload selective photos. For instance I could cherrypick ten locations in my town in UK. But with street view you could scuttle around and see everything. It's equivalent of being stuck in one location selected by another person [photo] or driving around where ever took your fancy and seeing what you wanted to see [street view].

@AndrewJin Wow. Fantastic. It's as good as Google Street View. I will post you my location by private message.

Okay which major country in South Asia do you think will become the first fully developed country? Vote and then post why you made the choice.

This might come as a surprise but I voted Bangladesh. I am rather prejudiced when it comes to Bangla but a honest assessment should attempt to discard such sentiments. I can't ignore that deep down I am most impressed by the plucky Banglas. From what I can see the country is fast sorting out it's fundamentals. So here are my reasons -

1. Homogenous ethnic based state giving it integrity, unity, cohesivness and stability that rest of South Asia can only dream.

2. A secular order that is not forever stuck in the quicksand of "Matlab Kya" but simply gets on trying build a country that provides decent life for everybody. This engenders a simple business like approach of sorting out real life issues like hunger, poverty, housing, sanitation, schooling, health etc. Leave god, religion, ummah for another day.

3. It has built up a impressive and genuine garment export industry. This has linked large part of Bangla with the western dominated trading system. Millions of Banglas now depend directly on Western buyers purchasing their products. This assures a common mutually beneficial relationship between the Western trading order and millions of ordinary Banglas. This alone reinforces the secular forces in Bangla and as we move forward they will get stronger as more Banglas will become dependant on this export industry which has a umbelical cord attached to the West.

4. The garment industry is introducing a sea change in culture. It is socializing millions of Bangla workers into modern industry and even more importantly most of these are females who will go on to nurture the next generation helping to bring about new social order inside Bangladesh.

5. As we forward the lessons learnt from garment industry will mature and over time Bangla will begin to move up the value chain. For example electronic goods might be next on the list. I can see those huge factories pouring out shirts moving up to manufacturing TVs etc.

The country will see increasing stability as millions of workers in Bangla know their living depends on keeping markets in the West sweet. This alone assures a huge internal mandate against Islamists. All stakeholders, government, business, employees, media know they all have to remain on the same page, paddle in same direction to keep those markets in West buying from them or it will be hunger time again. So the future is bright for Bangladesh. And I wish it the best. There is something deeply satisfying in seeing people raise temselves out of poverty and adversity through hardwork and grit.

You started with zero and your well on the way to becoming the hero. Well done Bangladesh.
Add sri lanka se well.

.
Sri Lanka will be first hands down. Mainly small country with decent human capital.
India will be last because we have too many people to care for. Remember, why Taiwan and South Korea became developed pretty fast while China is still trying to become developed?

.
Sorry for sucking the oxygen from your "useful" discussions.

Never said any were useful (the discussions themselves that is). What might be useful is for you to have a solid understanding of the "3 million genocide" complex the BD elites have now transferred and permeated into their govt statistics and institutions before you spout about their claimed success....where the grounding is over-reliant on that complex (as evidenced by the stagnation of BD in the corruption index compared to Pakistan and India).

If you want to flesh out what you think they have done past India and Pakistan, I will be happy to discuss each and every issue and why there is gross propaganda (with evidence) behind each one, thus making the argument of "being ahead" much less "first to developed status" quite redundant.

.
My vote goes to Bangladesh. Each country has their own struggles but in my view Bangladesh will have a relatively easier time developing due to geography.
  1. Access to navigable rivers and opportunities for deep sea ports.
  2. Radial geography (round country)
Navigable waterways
Having access to navigable rivers and waterways is the key for fast development and maintaining an economic edge overtime. The most economically vibrant regions (especially more in land ones) have access to good navigable waterways: Rhein Ruhr, London, Netherlands, Yangtze River economic region, Pearl River delta, etc. Rail and roads are expensive to build, have up keep costs and cannot move oversized loads. Under the condition of an incompetent bureaucracy or insufficient industrial capacity, maintaining and building infrastructure can become difficult thus presenting a risk to development. Having a developed network of waterways (which Bangladesh has naturally) will enable cheap transport of raw materials needed for industry and oversized industrial products otherwise not transportable by rail. Lower costs means higher returns, higher returns attracts investment.

There is an economy of scale effect for the shipping industry in Bangladesh. Due to ships being used in large numbers, it will promote the development of the whole supporting infrastructure (ports, dry docks) and expertise (naval education, ship building) for enabling better competitiveness in global markets in that industry. Due to low labour costs and experience it could become the next hub for outsourcing of shipbuilding.

Although other nations have access to waterways, this is a relative comparison. Bangladesh is almost entirely covered by large navigable waterways and potential to develop deep sea ports. The country being relatively small, no part of the country is too far from accessing international markets, thus able to exploit outsourcing of labour even under the conditions of poor infrastructure. This will decease the time for Bangladesh to reach its equilibrium potential.

Radial Geography
The ideal shape for an country from an economic lens is a circular shape. Radial geography promotes centralisation of political, economic, social, and military functions. The base element of development is a point and radiates outwards as it grows. The central point concentrates specialised functions for efficiency. It is not efficient to place MRI machines and other expensive medical machines in every village hospital but if the villages are close to the centre then access to high end services can be provided. Having a circular country means the ability to concentrate resources (especially specialised resources) at one point instead of spreading it along multiple points, promoting efficiency (high utilisation rate) thus attractive to industry, helping economic growth. Bangladesh could also have more specialised services earlier than other countries at the same stage of development.

Its rivers are both a blessing and a hurdle. The rivers divide the nation limiting development in less connected regions, thus necessitating large and expensive bridges.

Geography is a blessing, it only makes work easier, ultimately it depends on the inhabitants of that geography to develop itself. Pakistan and India will have to work harder and spend more money on infrastructure to develop the same overall competitiveness of Bangladesh. This could also mean Bangladesh won't be competitive for its roads and rail network but could have a high position in developing large bridges.

Once Bangladesh has a developed internal transportation network (roads, bridges, rail) it will transform its dense population into a blessing for logistics. A dense circular nation means the number of customers within a radius is maximised, attracting capital creating larger and more efficient operations. In theory its possible within our current technological limit to transform Bangladesh into a mega city centred around Dhaka with a travel time of less than 1 hour from periphery to centre.

You are quite right. This video on why cities are where they are also says how Dhaka is in the best position for building a new megacity.
It's at 12:22

. .
India is too big, BD does not have much natural resources, so my bet is Pakistan which already developed more than India and BD.

.
Probably Bangladesh, BD government is not as bad BD members here repeatedly bash, in fact BD government is the most competent and pragmatic among South Asia in my eyes. PM Hasina is a very smart politician. BD has an advantage of being next door to ASEAN which is the cradle of next economic tiger. BD is surrounded by India, 1.3 billions, ASEAN, 600 millions,
China, 1.4 billions, a total near 3.4 billions population market, of course, BD has to face competition from neighbors, no free lunch either, competition in general can force all parties to take pragmatic policy and stronger will to improve themselves, a positive contribution to overall economy development.

BD is an LDC country, they should worry more about the sea and prepare for global warming like the dutch ,I'd say the sea will drown them long before they become a developed nation.
You are giving an impression that Bangladesh is a tiny island country like Maldives or Tuvalu and will sink without any notice if sea level rise a bit.Even our lowest southern point is 3 meter above sea level and northern part is 50-100 meter and Chittagong hill tracts is 300-1000 meter above sea level.

No expert ever said that entire Bangladesh will be drown if sea level rises. Most dire prediction tell about losing 10-17 percent land by 2100AD if nothing is done to protect the coast. But Bangladesh has a rich history of management of coastal areas.Since 1960s we have reclaimed 1000 sq. km land from bay of Bengal and this process is accelerating. We are bounded by land mass on three sides, only southern coastline is open to sea. And our coastline is not that long , only 580 km.Protecting 580 km coastline is not that a big challenge for a country of 170 million people. We are already spending 1 billion dollar per year to mitigate the climate change. This spending will rise exponentially in the coming decades. So we are preparing to face any challenge.

You should rather worry about Karachi which is below sea level and southern Sindh.
