Which Asian Country speaks and writes better English?

As i said stop speaking our language and make Hindi your national language , that will be a good start. Afterall, we are not your colonial master anymore, we left over half a century ago. So what are you waiting for? Be more like the Chinese and Japanese(the only 2 countries i consider the real powers in Asia) who all speak their own language and have their local language as their national language, that doesnt makes them any less influential/powerful, same with France, Germany etc. What the hell i'm i even going as far as mentioning big countries like these? I should be mentioning even small countries like Iran who speaks its own national language more than India. The hell India has the largest English speaking population in the world.

Guess without our English language your world performance/productivity will be even more worse than it is today.

Pointless. Which part of 'English is not National language but only one of many official langauges that India has' did you miss?. IF you think this makes up for the fact that you're technologically and militarily behind India then you're just lame. You're beliving that 'certain countries are real powers and certain countries are not' is just like Belgium saying it think such and such countries are good or bad....who cares?

The question is: which Asian country speaks and writes English better?

There is no 'better or worse', the concept of standard English (or language) has been debunked. All dialects or accents are now equally legitimate as long as they facilitate communication.

This is true.. The concept of standard English is obsolete, Simply because it's a global language.. So there is no correct measurement to gauge who speaks and write "proper" English.. Nothing of that sort exist

I knew france will be at the bottom of the list in Europe and to a lesser extent the world.

The bloke mixes verb tenses to the dismay of his grade school teachers _ I knew … would_
and it's my English that's being questioned???

Tsssssss, sorry for that boomerang effect, guv'nor!

:flame: Tay. :partay:

My vote: Philippines and India.

Singaporeans are fluent however the accent is heavily Hokkien, say ending each sentence with "la" is typical.

In China alot of people don't even speak Mandarin (the government is promoting it as "Putonghua" a.k.a. common language, use simplified characters to make read-write easier for all ethnic groups) properly but prefer regional language/dialect, let alone foreign language.

That's what i admire about Indian and Pakistanis here. They can easily morph into the 'American' identity. LOL.

It could be because of our native tongues I believe which mostly belong to Indo-European group. Just my opinion. There must be some underlying similarities which make it easy for us to pronounce English words rather then with an accent. I have noticed Persian, Pakistanis and some Indians can easily adopt American and British accent.

I wasn't born in UK but it took me about 2 years to adopt to speaking English in my local accent in England.

That's how we speak up here.

Are they not in Asia?:undecided:

In the case of the Philippines, many say that we are not Asian due to our culture being in line with the Western world, the Spanish and American cultures to be specific.

The post is not clear is vague in nature.

What actually defines better English? Is it the diction, grammar, spelling, punctuation, voices etc etc....

Diction is very different across regions. The diction in which English spoken in Sub continent is totally different than what is there in Caribbean. Same goes between British and US..Even Irish have very strong accent as compared to their British counterparts. Hence What is the benchmark?

Spelling/punctuation in written English is also region specific. In US the letter 'z' replaces 's' in many cases. industrialization vs industrialisation hence the pronunciation. Education is pronounced differently in different regions.

For me, the languages should be best judged by grammar. A language with perfect grammar with wrong spellings can help in communication much better as compared to imperfect grammar with correct spellings.

I knew france will be at the bottom of the list in Europe and to a lesser extent the world. They are the most anti anglo-saxon country in the western hemisphere, and they protect their language like diamond, but we will also conquer them as well, just a matter of time @Taygibay ,@Gabriel92.:p: Just shows how pax britannica still rules the waves.:enjoy:
time to invade france and teach them English..

Hinglish is the general term for Indian English.. Even though the word itself may refer to Hindi/English.. Different accents through regions doesn't matter, Vernacular does, Particular words and grammar in Hinglish does not change much from North to South India.. Just like most other traditional English speaking countries
no, south Indian speak different English from north Indian... ending sentence with 'a'( as in bata) for question for example is south Indian because of influence of their language ('Are you going there?' becomes 'you are going there-a?')

As to head shake south Indians do it vigorously and north Indians/pakistanis in a more subtle way(probably non desi like @Nihonjin1051 can observe it easily)

Pakistanis have 'better' accent in the sense that they all speak like salman khan's airport English, or try to. :cheesy:

My friend Sidrah (she's Pakistani) does somewhat wobble her head when i ask her questions.

Addendum: When i ask her what she means? She'll just laugh and turn bright red...!! argh!! so confusing!! Pakistani women...!!
