Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Nov 25 (IANS) A group of upper caste Hindus joined Shia Muslims here Sunday to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, saying it was part of their tradition.

The martyrdom of the grandson of Prophet Mohammed, his family and followers marks the 10th day of the month of Moharram.

These Hindus in Muzaffarpur, about 70 km from Patna, belong to the Bhumihar Brahmin Mahasabha and claim their lineage as the Hussaini Brahmin sect.

"We also mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussain like Shia Muslims. It is part of a centuries-old tradition started by our ancestors," said Mahinder Singh, one of the dozens of Hindus who marched barefoot.

Like their Shia counterparts, they too beat their chests, constantly chanting 'Hussain, Hussain, Ya Hussain!'

Another Hindu, Shyam Kumar Sharma, who also participated in the Muharram procession, said he was proud to mourn the martyrdom of Hussain, whom he described as 'a hero of humanity'.

'It is a historical fact that our ancestors joined Hussain when he was fighting against Yezid at Karbala,' Sharma told IANS.

'We are following an ancestral tradition,' he said.

Singh said according to historical records, Hussaini Brahmins had settled on the banks of the Euphrates river after the battle of Karbala. Later they moved to India.

In the preface to his novel titled Karbala, published in 1924 from Lucknow, Munshi Prem Chand stated that Hindus who died in the Karbala war were believed to be descendants of Ashvathama.

Elsewhere in Bihar too, dozens of Hindu families observed Moharram and took out a 'tazia' (replica of Hussain's shrine) in a procession.

What a load of crap. from where this "brahmin sect" came from? Brahimns are said to be Hindus and have nothing to do with Family of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

This conspiracy theory proves two things

1. Brahmins either are NOT Hindus and outsiders who became Hindus to rule the real Hindus in Sub-continent. Therfore the Dravidians are right when they disown "Aryan" theory.

2. OR, The Indian Hindus are trying to infiltrate Islam through such concocted stories.

It just proves one thing.

Difficult as it may seem for most ppl here to believe, religious harmony exists in some parts of the world.

Those who see a conspiracy here are welcome to do so.

Meanwhile, the centuries old traditions which began before the Wahabis and Saffron hardliners continue .

Pakistan always want to find some conspiracy in everything. Even we have discussed this in PDF..

All of you Indians here failed to respond to the points i raised. Hence please do accept that claiming that there is any Bhrahmin Sect" of Imam Hussian (RA), is just a shyty claim by Indian Hindus just to tranish image of the family of Last Prophet of Islam Muhammad (PBUH).

2. Nobody here is talking against your "religious" harmony so dont try to twist the facts.

Where does these hussaini brahmin came from?

O dear you are claiming linage from sadat all arabs are not sadat.

its in that link ...." The name of the city literally means the city of Indians. As per local folklore, a Mohyal leader from India fought on behalf of Imam Hussain in the battle of Karbala, more specifically in the storming of Kufa- sacrificing his seven sons in the process. According to legend, Rahab Sidh Datt (also mentioned as Rahib Sidh or Sidh Viyog Datt in some versions) was the leader of a small band of career-soldiers living near Baghdad around the time of the battle of Karbala.

The legend mentions the place where he stayed as Dair-al-Hindiya, meaning “The Indian Quarter”, which matches Al-Hindiya in existence today. The Dutts have traditionally been referred to as Hussaini Brahmins for the role in promoting Hindu-Muslim unity "

now u can say Wiki is not a link or proof ...

wikipedia is NOT indeed a valid link neither close to a "proof"

the current day India has nothing to do with that word, there is No count of any Brahmin Hindu from India fighting in Karbala.

Please do not make fun of the sacard battle of Karbala.

you can praise your Hindu group for religious harmony in current day India but please do not claim any false linage to Blood of the Prophet (PBUH).
