the thing needed most now is success of Indian indigenous cryogenic engine

if we succeed, it will be a huge boost for our space program as we will be able to pursue bigger rockets with heavier payload

Guys the Chinese need to be commended on this magnificent feat, but does India need manned space craft?

Why so? Why not Russia leads and China follows Nobody is following Chinas foot steps , we are going independently . Although we beat them in BMD , you cant say India leads and China follows .

Honestly Russia is not leading space power it is just banking on the progress made during heyday of Soviet Union, China is the one space power which has certainly make leaps in space in last decade. I am of the opinion that though India had always the potential to compete with China in space it has been bogged down by our "great" politicians. ISRO's budget should be increased in the first place, than it should be encouraged to go for manned missions & exploration of space without any interference.

I have always said , The Western media tends to play up this India-China so called rivalry way too much . They just try to make stories out of every thing India and China does and try to find some Chinese/ Indian/ Western angle in them , even when there is none.

first of all it is an article written by an Indian, secondly there is a rivalry in space between India-China for sure, though not at the scale of USSR-US at the peak of cold war. China has developed ASAT weapons which are direct threat to Indian space based assets, China is readying itself for any future space war (if there will be any) with both US & India, India has to do something about it & please just remove the tag of "only" civilian space program from ISRO which is greatly damaging Indian interests.
