The confusion runs much deeper to define the reason for the nation states existence. Does it exist to cater to linguistic group, does it cater to geographical definitions or cater to a particular denomination.

This identity crisis is a socioeconomic challenge.

It's not confusion. The bengalees here are fiercely nationalistic and don't accept the fact that Bangladesh is a heteregenous nation. The bengalees have been committing cultural genocide since 1971. They dont tolerate any language but their own. But things are changing. There is an ongoing movement for language pluralism in BD and it's being led by sylotis and dhakaiyites (dhakaiya Urdu speaking nobility who emigrated from Kashmir centuries ago) slowly the other ethnic groups of Bangladesh are waking up to the cultural genocide if the joy bongo bongo people's.

BD is certainly getting better economically but Rome was not built in a day. We are NOW ahead of both India and Pakistan in terms of physical infrastructure development works as well as in many other indices.

But has anyone claimed BD has become a developed country? It definitely remains an underdeveloped country. But it’s govt and people doing the basic jobs to take it to a higher economic status.

Yet without recognized as a developing country its economy shows the strength of a developing country comparing to India and Pakistan.

Pakistan is the worst economy in our neighborhood. It’s PM is virtually begging other countries to get finance. But knowing the show-off characters of the Pakistanis, religious fundamentalism and the military’s nature of wasting the national wealth, no other country or Institution has come out to help it out. Bangladesh has no problem with different linguistic group. In fact it tries to protect all the local dialects including Dhakayia Urdu. What we are talking about is language not ethnic group. All the people those who lived here for centuries and inter married with Bengali people are called themselves Bengalis.

Go and ask any of your local Dhakaiya Urdu speaker what’s their ethnicity and see their answer. It’s Bengali and nationality Bangladeshi. Their language is Dhakaiyya Urdu but they can speak fluent Bengali.

If anyone lives in a land for centuries they become native to the land.

First know the difference between ethnicity, nationality and language. After that make your ignorant comment.

Dhakaiya Urdu is still alive an well in BD , but yes if it's not preserved it will fizzle out into Bangla. There are now ongoing attempts to preserve it as alongside all other indigenous languages in BD. Movement for language pluralism and resisting bengalee cultural genocide is on its in full momentum.
