When will India host the Olympics?

How ?

How much will a stadium cost and how many Indians can use it ?

Let me educate you. One stadium will cost around 700 million $. Maintenance will cost at least 20 million $ every year.

Assuming we maintain it for 20 years, that is 400 million $. So total coast is 1100 Million $.

Now how many athletes will use that stadium ? maybe 100 athlete's.

That is 11 Million $ per Athlete or around Rs. 72 Crores PER athlete.

We spend Rs. 6 Lakh per child per year in IIT.

Now tell me, which provides better ROI ?
From where did you get this data?

. . .
You do not need olympic sports to install team work, fitness or even learn how to manage life. There are always alternative methods and lifestyles.

Gulli danda is not an Olympic sport, nor is kabbadi. Nor is Malkhamb. Nor is jalikattu, neither is Yoga etc. etc.

Also, pakistan is a HUGE manufacturer of football and cricket equipment's. It has done no wonders for them either.

Then by your logic, we should also disallow BCCI and take cricket under government wing.

Or better, just abandon sports participation altogether due to miserable corruption under government bodies.

.
If you host it....you are going to have to deal with a lot of spotlight on poverty and how you were heartless enough to host an extravagant game without helping the poor etc....Brazil did not come out of this event with a better image.
You are right, they (US/UK) find issues to mock others specially in events they try to create a big thing out of nothing.

A big problem as perplexing as infrastructure and organisation is India's ability to win medals.

If the medal haul does not increase in 2020, 2024 and 2028 and stay too low, then it is nonsensical to host the games for other countries to play in and relegating the host nation to passive host.

Id say build up to win at least 10 gold per olympics before hosting.

we do not dope ...

By my logic we should leave BCCI alone. What they do is their business, not the governments.

Government better focus on GOVERNANCE, not Sports.

I have no problems if we wipe out the sports ministry. Its a waste of public money.

I agree.

Privatising and institutionalising sports is the new way.

Sports Ministry is an archaic concept and with Indian mentality in it, I don't think it is a healthy idea.

India Should Aim at 2032

We have other pressing matters to worry about.

Olympics can be hosted when other things are sorted out.

Its a relatively new ministry which was started by Indra Gandhi during 1982 Asiad games as a propaganda tool to white wash her image in the west after she imposed "emergency" in India and Bangladesh war.

It should have been disbanded immediately after since none of the PM after her know how to effectively use Propaganda.

Modi knows how to play that game, but unlike Indira Gandhi, he is also worried about the cost to India. I think nowadays it exist only to park useless politicians similar to the post of Governor.

google + common sense.
Google + Common sense? That is your reply to my genuine query? My point is demographics of India is different, its possible that the data you have picked up might not apply same way in Indian scenario. Thats why i asked if thats expert analysis on India or some other country? If its on India ok then, otherwise not.

Only developed countries should do it in my opinion. Look at what happened in Brazil. So many protests and now they need money for the Paralympics. Well let's see how it goes down.

.
No need for that .

Our first goal should be to make India a multi sports nation . Improvements already happening though they are only baby steps . Following is the list which I wish to see in India

American Football of Top level
Baseball of top level
Football of top level
Basketball of Top level
Kabaddi
Hockey
Tennis
Athletics
Add shooting, we can improve in that too.

The question is not 'if' but 'when'.

When is the time optimal? As of now organizing such an event will not have a happy ending. The performance of the athletes in Rio is proof of an unstable talent pool that is severely let down by the state and corrupt officials. The commonwealth games in 2010 was a looters paradise and reflects an unwillingness from the government officials to take national 'face' seriously.

2038 perhaps? Forget about making money from the olympics, the benefits are intangible but they do exist. Indian athletes winning medals might instill in the population a national pride and break down the barriers between castes and regionalism as Im sure the population will cheer all Indians regardless of social background and demographic.
You are a wise man :)

What has cost of construction got anything to do with Demographics ?

World class facilities required world class capital. You are talking about Global standards, Olympics standards. So the cost of construction will be similar to those constructed in rest of the world.

Land cost in India is one of the highest in the world. Especially in tier one cities.

The stadium in Rio cost 550 million $ to build. This was a couple of years back. Pearth Stadium will cost 1.5 Billion $.

I was being conservative when I said 700 million $.

Rio Olympics costed Brazil 12 Billion $. That is our Entire Defence capital expenditure. The returns are close to ZERO.

Its less about cost of construction and more about utilization. The countries you are comparing have fraction of population.
