When 150 Mercedes rolled into Aurangabad

Quick question, does MBIL have production facilities in India?
Yes, Tata and Force motors(bajaj) supply spare parts to Mercedes for decades now. For example, the gurkha uses the OM616 Mercedes engine, which is manufactured in house and infact looks a lot like the G wagon from Mercedes

Tata also manufactured Mercedes trucks

Yes... OM611 and OM616 are being assembled under license by Force motors in india.
and it has very high indigenous content...

Mercedes trucks are not produced in India. MB has started setting up a production plant near chennai.

But it will take a long time for that to happen. Infact they were contemplating to take over Volvo, thereby also getting the volvo plant in bangalore.. but nothing happened so far...

ofcourse, mercedes are assembling cars in pune, india. They used to share the premises with tata car plant until recently..

I'm thinking along the same lines also.

I don't know how this lavish and extreme purchase of Mercs changes the infrastructure, the educational facilities, industry, telecommunications etc of Aurangabad.

Am I missing something here?

DGMO this is personal wealth of businessmen and not charity affair. Clearly visible they want to boast wealth and not do charity.

OM611 and OM616 engines have been long discontinued by Benz. Kinetic Engineering (Force motors) bought the full line and set it up in India. There is no connection between Benz and Force. Just as the tech transfer between Benz and Tata had ceased long ago.

What effectively this has contributed is flight of 65 corore to europe when it could have been invested locally in a much effective manner to boost local economy and image..foolish move indeed.

The pic in post # 17 is of 1954 vintage . Tata began by making trucks in collaboration with Mercedes . These trucks were in the IA till 70's they were called TMB's.

Quite like Ashok Leyland.

^ My guess, E class. Its approx 40Lakh INR (78Lakh PKR). 65 Crore INR = 127 Crore PKR. So 150 E class Merc are possible in above mentioned amount.
