Yesterday, in the presence of thousands of spectators and media persons the Indian Airforce put up a much publicized display of it's fighter aircraft practicing landing on a motorway.
The drill involved some 20 front line aircraft of the IAF. This was second year running that the IAF carried out this drill among all the fanfare, however like last time, this years exercise turned out to be either a low flypast or just merely touch and go with the exception of a C-130 which did actually land and disembarked some troopers to secure the area. In any case the C-130s are designed to operate from rough ground.
The practice of using motorways is an alternate to runways at an airfield during war or in an emergency. The practice requires, to recover your aircraft in a designated part of selected motorways, refuel, rearm and launch the package. I'm somewhat dismayed as what IAF is practicing to achieve by merely doing low flypast or touch and go exhibitions which it could do over it's airfields. It would have made some sense had some of it's aircraft landed and did a turn around as would be required in a war like situation.

Oh this was just test of UP road capabilities....
We have plenty of time to kill...so thought why not checkout hows the highway...

When entire world media is watching, certain activities have to be done in covert way ..so people did saw some action on ground, others where just practiced keeping in mind the road. There is lot more than whats been shown :D

Ironically, when the PAF first landed it's aircraft on Motorway back in 2005, the IAF high command with a wry smile commented....''No big deal, the Swiss and Swedish air forces have been doing this for a long time''.....yet a decades later the IAF has felt the need for it but still practicing touch and go. :D

Well, last time among other reasons put up by the IAF, one was that it's aircraft didn't land as it would cause wheels to burst.... watching your video, perhaps next time they should attempt beach landing.... it will serve two purpose....soft landing for the tires plus prevent any Ajm,al Kasab type boat assault.

You are dense beyond belief.....is there any difference between attack or assault.... work on your comprehension before jumping into every thread just for the sake of it.
Here are couple of examples to enlighten you.

Indian army officials said that the deadliest assault on an Indian military installation in more than 15 years appeared to be the work of a Pakistan-based terrorist group, Jaish-e-Mohammad.

It is a newly constructed expressway....the first landing on this strip

Do these idiots know the purpose of Motorway landings? They have to land, park , refuel, rearm.

It is looking silly when they are making the approach for landing and not having the balls to actually land, refuel and take off again.

This is how it is done:

The main purpose of the exercise is to demonstrate that IAF has option of using highways if by chance several airfields go out of service during war.

But at the same time it is open knowledge that PAF which has weak offensive capability and a mere 165 4th gen fighters compared to India's 395+ 4th gen fighters will never be able to take on multiple Indian airfields.
