System architect means you work in IBM type companies??

Embedded systems. Something like ipod, set top boxes, network switches, MIDs etc. I usually work on the platform sides. Systems modelling, and platform sides ( BSP, Bootloader, Device drivers etc)

System architect means you work in IBM type companies??

IBM types , YES
in IBM, No

There are many companies, but as I mostly work in platform side, I fit in anywhere. All the products , irrespective of being handheld, consumer, carrier grade etc, all need platform engineers/architects.

Bright side is You learn a lot and enjoy the work
Down side is you need to keep yourself upgraded, if you dont read 2/3 journals whitepapers per week then you are out
