Islam says we are equal but Islam also is more realistic when it states that Men are just physically stronger so they should be the head and protectors of households. So it does expect certain gender roles.
it does but doing something outside of that should not be considered wrong. Different situations require different things and its all about survival at the end...while islam is correct in the structure it offers, I don't think anything that doesn't follow that is wrong ya noe :P

Such as 'If you want to go for Medical Education on the State's Heavily Subsidized Rates (as most do) then we won't tolerate you getting married half way through your MBBS/MD or a year after its completion & never even doing a house job/residency let alone being a proper Medical Practitioner so if you still want to go for it sign a Covenant that stipulates that you'd work for for a minimum of 5 years in some public or private Medical Practicing Capacity post-qualification'
