Abdicating the role of the world’s leading superpower, in favour of China.

After the first 3 years of Trump’s presidency, the US is no longer seen in the world as a respected, competent, trusted leader.

Instead it is now seen more as an ignorant backwater, with the poorest healthcare system among all developed countries, with mass shootings as part of daily landscape and so on. A country where half of the population is stupid enough to still support an incompetent, self-obsessed idiot and compulsive liar as their President. A flawed democracy where a guy who gets less votes becomes a President - and who holds on to his position despite committing criminal offences to his country, because the judgement is done by his mates from the same party?

Trump’s failed leadership during the coronavirus crisis was the final nail in the coffin. How can anyone trust a country that cannot prepare itself for the forthcoming virus outbreak, despite having 2 months of advance warning, and several success models in handling the crisis to simply copy? A country whose leader has put his blatant ignorance on display for the whole world to see? A country that steals medical supplies that other countries have ordered and paid for?

We are probably witnessing the end of the era of American leadership in the world, and that’s the price of Trump presidency.

China has been gradually catching up with the US. Trump has handed them the keys to world leadership on a silver tray.

I am writing this with a heavy heart. I lived in NYC when I was a kid, and visited the US several times after. For decades I looked up to the US as an aspirational role model.

Not any more.

Greetings from Europe.

Back in the year 2000 my conservative friend was all excited about the incoming George W Bush administration. Eight years of peace, prosperity and a balanced budget under Bill Clinton was just more than he could stand. After all, he had sex with an intern and had a D after his name.

I warned him that George W Bush had never succeeded at anything in his entire life and such people don't make good presidents. You know the rest of the story. The worst terrorist attack on American soil, two endless unwinnable wars, torturing prisoners of war, an ill advised tax cut to the rich, hurricane Katrina, the worst economic collapse since 1929 and trillion dollar annual deficits.

America paid a huge price for the George W Bush presidency but it doesn't end there. Under the Obama administration the economy would recover but that wasn't enough for a certain segment of the American people. A con-man with bad hair and clown make-up came along promising to MAGA. Despite his multiple bankruptcies, fraudulent university, fraudulent charitable foundation and outlandish promises the American people were once again taken in by the con-man. They felt that at last someone was "listening to us". Actually it was the other way around. The American people were listening to Trump and he was feeding off the attention.

Once Trump won the election his followers didn't care that they were paying for the ridiculous wall and not Mexico. They didn't care that children were separated from their families, some never to be returned. They didn't care about yet another tax cut for the rich or the plundering of environmental regulations. The economy was growing and adding jobs at the same rate as President Obama but Trump was MAGA.

The first three years Trump had a relatively easy ride on President Obama's economy. Then he had to face his first crisis. He started by downplaying the coronavirus. He told us he did a great job because we had 15 cases and soon it would be down to zero. The virus would miraculously disappear when the weather gets warmer. As the cases started building Trump pivoted to conspiracy theories. It was the latest "Democratic hoax" and it was a "Chinese virus". He has lied about the availability of tests, vaccines and cures.

Rather than meet this challenge head on, Trump delayed for critical weeks early on. Now it will cost an additional trillion dollars in borrowed money on top of the trillion dollars we borrow every year because Republicans believe that the rich shouldn't have to pay taxes. Forget about funding much needed infrastructure, education or healthcare. All that is out the window thanks to Trump’s mismanagement of a serious crisis. Thanks to Trump we are no longer concerned about the economy growing too slowly. We are concerned about a recession reaching depression-like levels.

There's no telling how long this will last. The question is will America ever be the same again.

Trump isn't the cause, he's just a symptom of the rot in American society. US is a declining power and once it collapses, it will be remembered in history as the sick, morally-corrupt, homicidal scum it's always been. It is the one country/nation that managed to commit crimes and piss off people in every timezone around the world.

yeah accepting China into the wto and opening the doors without putting checks on them was a big mistake. and then all the american companies sending designs to China and trusting them with IP - another big mistake. On top of that allowing China to steal at will!

But then all that comes to a stop soon - dumb Mr.Trump is putting China in its place. We don't want Chinese peopel to suffer but the CCP greed will be thwarted. Xi Jinping understands, all bravado aside, what American muscle can do - to trade, to politics and to his very survival.

As to Europe - not much to say. They listened to leftist nuts and allowed rampant illegal immigration and refugee overrun - effects of that are just beginning to show.

Those in the world that recognize that America is so far ahead in its resources & technologies that they can commit a few blunders as above and not be wounded too hard - those are the smart people. The rest, such as the idiots writing the content such as above - just riffraff. Why ? well look at America after the 9/11 and the WOT that ensued. Tthere were bombs falling in Pakistan and Afghanistan and Iraq and what not. Nobody can toouch the US and they didn't. In other words Bush kept his prime and kept the war out of America.

And now look at Trump shenanigans. Call him all sorts of names, he doesn't care. Putin and MBS on the other hand scratch each other's eyes out. Angela Merkel eats crow. Treaudo is reduced to tears. Mexicans can't wait to sign the new deal. Theresa May has bitten the dust and the Orangehead Brit is PM! Imran Khan, Erdogan, Xi Jinping ....one after other had to withdraw to their shells. Why? they messed with America when they messed with Trump. However dumb

The world isn't going to do shit to China, I'm saying that as an American, and U.S. is in no position to dictate China in the long-term. The American's also argued with Canada and ended up looking stupid from an economical point of view -- they required more North American steel which is fine -- however, in return Canada was able to increase it's exports to U.S. gaining more share and U.S. a very small share in the milk industry whereas the milk association came out and said all this was fruitless.

A lot can be done to punish China -- but it would require a smart and calculated leader -- not the duffar we have at the top.

Reading deeper into it Trumps deal made NAFTA even stronger and loosened ends -- whereas we are in the same position.

On top that and most importantly China offers economy of scale which as we've seen in this crisis U.S. couldn't even achieve.

it's already started. The egress of manufacture out of China. So far economics drove 100% of the rationale. The virus aftermath has changed outlook on nations' priorities. Certain things just will not be trusted with China.

China has done a much better job than the US is doing now.

It is not the handling of the virus.

It is release of information on the deadliness of the virus. It is allowing all the infected Chinese to visit Italy and start the epidemic there

Makes no difference this is just short term -- once things settle done, it will be back to business as usual. I edited my post above and would mention it hear as well, China offers economy of scale, which U.S. and other nations can't offer. Even after talking about bring manufacturing back to the U.S. or India for Apple example; they decided to stick with China because none other could offer what China can -- economy of scale: man power, industrial capacity, and raw material and logistics within the country.

For businesses it will come down to cost of manufacturing and making sure shareholders enjoy maximization of profit.

some of you guys still don't understand the USA, given its resource advantages and the technological advantage is a several leagues ahead. China had a chance but they blew it when their people started getting caught stealing. Now with the Wuhan virus screw up, the nails are coming on to their coffin on that dream.

Now watch what happens. Japan US India and UK are already aligning on specific stragem

China is under no obligation to keep Italy safe and vice versa. I'm sure there are a lot of rats in China, but not a single one's azz is given by Beijing.

@viva_zhao Dear friend,

It is not only Trump, but the whole American ruling class of all political persuasions who have betrayed the American people.

America does not have elections, but selections, with the ones having the most money having the most influence.

The time has come, where the illegal actions of the ruling elite have precipitated the end of this illegitimate and farcical political system.

US will not recover.
