Martha strength was their light cavalry, but if you ask me it might have been impossible for Martha to defeat mughal completely if nadir shah have not invaded India

True Light Cavalry and Deadly Ambushes,but unfortunately in later period they give away their Strength for example....During battle of Panipat Marathas were accompanied by large number of Women and Servants living in their Camp.

Secondly Mughals were already weak before Nadir Invasion,so called Mughal emperor "Muhammad Shah Rangila" had no authority so much so that he even made Concubines and Court Dancers as High Grade Mansabdar.

Nadir Shah invaded India in 1738

The Marathas had rendered Mughals ineffective AFTER 1707
ie after the 27 year war Mughals had been decimated

Nadir Shah invaded because Delhi was still a rich city but without proper
military and government

Deccan war didn't bankrupt the mughal empire nor did maratha venture north India before nadir shah invasion ,it's only after defeats at karnal where the largest chunk of mughal forces were concentrated that mughal military diminsh, nadir looted the whole mughal treasury & when he returned back to Iran with it he stop taxes for three years, its only after nadir shah invasion that Martha went unaposed up to Delhi

Yeah,we do havce a huge respect for the Mughal emperor Akbar whom we consider as the greatest ruler of Medieval India because of his secular nature and behavior towards his subjects but the same can't be said about Shah Jahan or Aurangzeb.It was Auranzeb who deliberately destroyed close to 200,000 temples all over India because of his religious bigotry.He relentlessly persecuted his Hindu subjects who were incidentally the majority of the population at that time and he was personally responsible for the downfall of the Mughal empire!!

s luck that played a major role in favor of Ahmed Shah Abdali at the 3rd battle of Panipat,otherwise they would have definitely shown Mr.Abdali his real place in this world.

The marathas could not actually counter the british strategic response of inviting Abdali to attack India in the name of Jehad to weaken marathas and Rajputs. Yes, they were britishers who asked abdali to attack India, and covertly supported him.

See the map before Abdali came to India, no where were britishers. After Panipat within few years British took over India.

They were also undisciplined as completely shown when they charged the afghan front line during the battle,except Ibrahim khan gardi 9000 men who were aligned on European line & kill the most number of abdali man than any other

Right..Strength is light cavalry... light means there weapon is Talwar, spears and knife. About food..Bhakar and onion and chillies only...cloths one blanket, one pair of dhotar and shirt.....that's all .... and nothing more than that

Hence from East. Abdali received a letter from a Muslim called as Waliullah shah, which was actually a message of british sent covertly to Abdali in Afghanistan. ' Come and Attack Delhi'

They recovered in the MOST spectacular manner

And by 1780 were again the Number one power in India

They still had the biggest treasury in the world at that time & chunk of mughal forces were at karnal, I never said Martha could not have defeated them but the fact was that they didnt have enough manpower for at least 20 years after decan war & mughal have enough money to raise a million man in same period , nadir was the real man who bankrupted mughal buy looting the treasury ,which had enough precious metal in it to stop all taxes for three years in Iran
