So people before 1947 what was the nationality of your family. Note nationality and NOT your ethnic, religious, tribe, clan etc group. This is only for people from South Asia. Vote and then give explaination.

FACTS:

The status was "British subject" and any British subject from any part of the British Empire, Britain, Canada, Australia, Gibralter, Hong Kong, South Africa etc as well as present day India, Pakistan, Bangla, Burma, parts of Yemen could apply for this passport. Note the British crown and for Indians note there is no Ashokas wheel.

The British Indian passport was a passport, proof of national status and travel document issued to British subjects of the British Indian Empire, British subjects from other parts of the British Empire, and the subjects of the British protected states in the Indian subcontinent (i. e. the British Protected Persons of the 'princely states'). The title of the state used in the passport was the "Indian Empire",[1] which covered Aden, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Burma, and non French and Portuguese India.

Note:
  • Aden - part of present day Yemen which is supposedly in Middle East.
  • Burma - Myanmar
  • Pakistan
  • India

When Idi Amin kicked all the Asians out of Uganda in 1970s most moved to Britain on the strength of them having British nationality on account of being born in what was before the British Empire. DEspite massive popposition by far right National Front in UK the British government allowed wave of migration from East Africa because of the ctatus of 'British subjects" enjoyed by former colonies.

Not really. Many Britons did not want more immigrants. These people had no other place to go to. If Britain had back tracked on the nationality as subjects they would have become stateless.

So far nobody has gone for "Indian". Indian nationality only became available after India was made in 1947 August same as Pakistani nationality.

  • Bust the 'Indian'.
  • Bust the idea of being 'one'.
Being a inmate in a prison does not mean the fellow inmates are your 'family'. The only commonality you have is your all subject to dicates of one governor.Once your freed you go your way ....
