Where do you get that idea from.
You think wars and mass killings don't go on in other parts of the world? What about the dark ages etc.
The Europeans of the dark ages weren't particularly tall as well. Many males were under 170cm.
If we look further at 500BC, the Indo-European Scythians of the steppe were very tall, many of these men were over 190cm.
So the height of the ancient people did vary under various circumstances.
