i don't know about others but Rajputs r definitely kshatriya
brahmans were knowledge intellects
kshtriya were warriors n rulers
Vashya were traders
n Shudra were basically sweepers

when u r acknowledge that Rajputs were warriors n rules then why wouldn't they be kshatriyas:what:

Shudras are those who are supposed to work in service industry according to old Varna system, for example I work in software dev of a US investment bank, so according to Varna system, since I work in service industry, I should be a Shudra. My fiance, being true to her Varna(a Mukherjee) is doing PHD, that makes her a Brahmin according to Varna system.

Joe is right, old Khastriyas have long been dead(except may be some Varmans here and there). Rajputs were later import, if I'm not wrong first mention of Rajputs in written history was only during 5th-6th century. Read more about Sanskrityan(Sanskritization - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) process.

Jatts, Gurjars etc mostly farmers, land owners etc. Some of them although have traditionally worked as professional soldiers.

Martial Race - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The concept already had a precedent in Indian culture as one of the four orders (varnas) in the Vedic-Hindu social system are known as the Kshatriya, literally "warriors."

British declared 'martial races' in Central Asia,

Ahirs/Yadavs
Awans
Bhumihar Brahmin (excluded later after rebellions)
Bunts
Dhund Abbasis
Khatris
Dogra
Gakhars
Garhwalis
Ghumman
Gujjar
Gurkhas
Janjua
Jats
Kamboj/Kamboh.
Khokhar
Kodava (Coorgs)
Kumaoni/Kumaunis
Mahars
Marathas[37]
Mohyals
Nairs (removed after rebelling)
Pashtuns
Qaimkhanis
Rors
Rajputs
Sainis
Sikhs
Sudhan
Tanolis
Tarkhans
Vanniya kula kshatriya

OMG the BS of martial race! So just because these guys fought for British, does that make them Khatriya?

I agree - Especially look at this - Nairs (removed after rebelling) - Suddenly th nairs stopped being a warrior community because they fought against British.

Some castes are scheduled due to their backwardness in education or financially .. that has nothing to do with caste hierarchy.

That too change with state to state .. for eg. Jat are OBC in UP but in General category in Haryana.

Do you got my Point ?

No, I don't. Look at your list again, carefully. There are castes there that can never claim even remote Kshatriya status. Your using a British list thought up to justify disbanding the Bengal and Madras Armies after the mutiny as a support for your very strange theories on castes are amusing at best. They really don't need detailed discussion. Everyone knows what the Martial Races nonsense was about.

Well, my tribe has not been classified as a martial race, even though historically we have been known for being fierce fighters, and agriculturalists. The reason for this was because we had rebelled against the British.

I am Human and I dont want myself to be bounded with caste, creed or race. Thank you !

Why am I not surprised?

Just joking. I've a lot to say about Arains, but don't know whether I should encourage a caste-based discussion.

Feel free. I have no reservations.

I didn't know what Gotra meant, till I just googled it now.

Apparently my tribe also has many gotras.

However, in the ancient, Mughal and Sikh periods, Arains had held prominent positions, such as governors and army generals. Many gotras, or sub-clans, of the Arains bear names that indicate soldiering as an occupation. For example: Ghalar, Gahgeer and Goheer (ferocious horse of armoured corps), Gatku (fencer), Kavali (soldier patrolling while others rest), Basroo (observation post), Bahman (brave, uncontrollable or insurmountable), Bhaila (alms-keeper who walks with the commander when he is giving away alms after a victory), Daulay (those who got land in return for military services), Khatora (spy), Ramay (archers), Rattay (bloody, red, ferocious fighters), Ramday (red -eyed soldiers), Labanay (an army column equipped with batons), Jatalay (victors), Qutub Shahi: (soldiers or their offspring who accompanied Qutubuddin Aibak), Sappal (marksmen), Bahalwan (driver of a chariot), Mudh (logisticians supplying logistics and reinforcement to the army), Teerandaz (archers), Katarband (users of katar, a weapon used by ancient armies) and Bhutto (dwellers of high places).

I could be Gupta (both sides of the border), Barat, Niyogi (west Bengal only), SenGupta, DasGupta, DuttaGupta (east Bengal only). Strangely, Qanungo is Vaidya.

No problem, but I don't get the joke?

Nothing hugely funny.

Arains tend to be serious-minded people, with no time for persiflage, very work-oriented and averse to chit-chat. Most of the ones i've met were Sunni, very serious about religion, with a predilection towards conservatism, going Wahhabi or Salafi, depending on their exposure to foreign travel or otherwise. Great people to work with, but never could relax with them.

Although we are conservative, we do hold great respect for the Sufi saints.

I suppose you've met professionals, so personality wise they will be like that.

I'm sure If you met some farmers and villagers your opinion would change quickly. :D

I have to agree though, even my personality is very introverted when it comes to the work place. Contrary to internet belief.
