The prestigious Signature Bridge project at Wazirabad will be ready by 2013. In her budget speech, chief minister Sheila Dikshit said that the construction for the Rs 1,131 crore much-delayed project has started.

Hopefully Lahore will get an underground system but there are areas in Pak that also need an airport especially in the Northern areas so people don't have to go to Isloo and if they do then atleast have a connecting flight that goes from Isloo to the Northern area airport.

Anyone who is a resident in Lahore or just a tourist can straight away tell that the city needs to beef up its transport network as even a 10 minute journey can take an hour due to the idiots on the road and traffic. Punjab transport minister Mian Rehman should visit Iran and speak to their Transport ministers as they have a sucessful underground network and is absolutely beautiful. I'm sure Iran unlike other countries would help us out with the planning and enable us to outsource the work to one of our construction companies so they can gain knowledge in this field.

Problem is corruption within Pakistan as projects are given to people depending on who offers the minister the best financial incentives, btw that Wazirabad Bridge is beautiful looks a bit similar to Hangzhou Bay Bridge, hope the water will be that clear :P. Which building company will be carrying out the project?

LO2P: Delhi Recycling Center
Traffic and pollution from cars is a major problem in New Delhi and while CNG buses for public transportation are becoming more popular, even more must be done. As public transportation and more fuel efficient vehicles come into use, the older, polluting cars will become obsolete, but are still full of resources that can be used. Atelier CMJN proposes to take these old cars and recycle them for parts and materials in order to construct their circular skyscrapers.

LO2P is one part recycling center, one part power plant and one part air filter – waste goes in and clean energy, air and food come out. The recycling loop serves as the structure for a large wind turbine as well as photovoltaic panels on the exterior that generate clean energy. The recycling center at the base of the tower produces waste heat and carbon dioxide, which are in turn used by the greenhouse to produce food and bio-fuel. And a set of rotating filters capture the suspended particles in the air, pumping fresh air into the city.

The recycling loop is an ingenious concept relying solely on wastes for its input stream to produce valuable materials and cleaner air. Like a vertical garden, the LO2P is an eco factory and is easily conceived in other locations around the world. We can’t wait to see this eco skyscraper in action one day.

At 11,740, Delhi has highest number of IT companies in India
New Delhi, Mar 3, (PTI):

It is not Maharashtra, not even Andhra Pradesh, but Delhi that has the highest number of IT companies in India at 11,740 by the end of January 2011.

Minister of State for Corporate Affairs RPN Singh in a written reply also informed the Lok Sabha that information technology companies (IT) registered in India have recorded a profit of Rs 12,360.71 crore in 2009-2010.

The profit in 2009-2010 was 52.11 per cent up from Rs Rs 8,126.00 crore in the previous fiscal. The increase shows that IT companies, which were hit by the financial meltdown, are probably back on track now.

Singh said there were 58,824 registered IT companies in India as on January 31, 2011, with Delhi having the highest number of them, followed by Andhra Pradesh at 9582 and Tamil Nadu 7074. Karanataka is way behind at 6830.

Delhi had 11,740 IT companies, followed by Maharashtra (11,080), Andhra Pradesh (9,582), Tamil Nadu (7,074) and Karnataka (6,830).

States which are at the the bottom list are were Mizoram which had just one registered IT company, Andaman and Nicobar (2), Dadara and Nagar Haveli (3), and Daman and Diu (4).

its beautiful...look at the ones at JLN coming up..hey are massive and stunning at the same time...2 of them....+ the ones at SPM Aquatic , Sarojini Nagar , RML Hospital and on the BRT corridor etc etc....

someone needs to attempt the daunting task of making some parameters and definitions as to what a 'best' city is --especially capital city

i dont think ferris wheels or pedestrial over-passes add anything too substantive; nor do people urinating in the street and what have you....

someone with much free time (we seem to have a lot of such people here) can Inshallah by this week devise the guidelines. A rubric, of sorts.

kind regards

Delhi Civic Center... claim is the tallest building in Delhi

A newly-constructed Civic Centre building in the heart of the capital which houses the headquarters of Municipal Corporation of Delhi was unveiled on Thursday. The 28-storeyed 112-metre landmark building has been constructed at a cost of Rs 650 crore. Spread over an area of 12 acres, the headquarters of the civic body has four six-storey blocks, one 28-storey tower block in addition to services block, water treatment plant and sewage treatment plant.

Expected to cater to 16,000 people per day, it will also have waiting areas, fountains, an open-air theatre, three halls for holding MCD House and Standing Committee meetings as well as a separate media centre.

The Civic Centre has an auditorium with capacity of 1,000 seats beside an art gallery and a restaurant. It will have a 33KV sub-station for dedicated and interrupted power supply.
