Which is more humane?

I know human rights groups are calling for no death penalty, and in a way I agree, sometimes a person can be wrongly convicted, and the death penalty would give no way of correcting it.

However, is a life sentence really more humane?

Some people have been in jail since before they are legally an adult, and will remain there for the rest of their life.

Is that really more humane than the needle?

In an ideal world, both would not be necessary, but in this world we do live in is, spending an entire life in jail more humane than just ending it?

BTW, this isn't a country related deal, just on this issue. So don't bring country into this.

Death penalty is a scare tactic.
Prosecutors state that imposing the death penalty is a crime deterrent. Law enforcement agencies feel that if there is no death penalty then crime would become uncontrollable.
It is often said that the punishment should fit the crime. A brutal ,pre planned murder/rape deserves a capital punishment.
Many people seem to be no longer afraid of prison and some actually seek it out. Life in jail should NOT be a pleasant experience whatsoever.
I am a proponent for the death penalty as well as life imprisonment and I am not at all humane about either.
Since in India life imprisonment is just 14years.....thats just not enough for heinous crimes.

Thanks, but not arguing whether it is the punishment fits the crime, if it's humane?

Does anybody really have the right to put a person in a small room with the same 2-3 people for the rest of their life?

You are really just treating them like animals. Like the Chicken that's waiting to be killed for food instead these guys are not living, they are alive but no goals, no dreams, no purpose, just living.

I'm not going to say what they did deserves it or not, but does anyone?

Who gave anyone the right to treat someone like that? People deserve second chances.

If you must, isn't ending it more humane than being locked in a cage for life?

My take on this would be life imprisonment simply means that you put them in a holding area until they die with free food, clothing, place to live and sleep, and they are NOT required to do anything to work towards it.And many jails have a lot of comfort. Many prisioners are pardoned/some have their term reduced. So is justice done to the victim???
I dont remember the case ...but a prisoner who was sentenced life term came out on parole to kill the victim. What about such prisoners??
A life sentenced prisoner should serve to deter future offenders.
S/he should be made to recompense damages, not only to the victim and their family, but to society in general for injecting fear and distrust. And death achieves not all of it.Death sentence sou
A chill should run down the spine of anyone when they think of life imprisonment.

may be we should ask the convict for his choice... every year. :)
I dont think jails are so bad place that people would rather die. Long term convicts can still build their own life around the jail, read books, exercise, watch tv. If they are online, they will miss very little of real life. lolz.

Depend on which country you are asking

You would not know exactly how comfortable jail is until you've been in

In Sweden, inmate root because the air conditioner does not fix in time

In Australia, inmate riot because the TV in the common room are too far from their cell

And do you know the maximum sentence you can serve for any particular crime in Sweden is 7 years and 30 if you put them all together?

And do you know there is an option in Australia that you you only go to jail in the weekend? That was called periodic detention

Now tell me, death or life in jail, which one is more humane?

death would be more humane if you end up in a prison in America sharing the same cell with big Leroy.

My question was rhetorical, hence I said depends on where you are at.

Been to the pen in US, and Australia, I can tell you the two place is different

Well, apart from actually gone to jail in those 2 place, I have no experience

Well not a jail in the US, a holding cell I supposed it called

Some crimes just deserve death sentence, the doers of such crimes don't deserve to live.
