What if all Chinese smartphone makers dumping Android

OS and app market won't do it alone.

China needs to come up with a google like search engine, mapping service and gmail like email with cloud storage.

782,848,000 smartphone users in China

Just four Chinese companies account for 50% of global Android market share. Add in OnePlus, Transsion etc, the number goes to 67%. What if all Chinese corps got together and developed a solid OS & left Android at the same time?
They will leave this huge market for Samsung and Moto or Nokia even.

It is not difficult to make for such a company like Huawei.

Breaking the monopoly of the social application is.

What if Chinese dump android? It will be great news for non-chinese companies. So far all Chinese companies have done is assemble western components and software in their smartphones. From processor to OS.

Sounds like a silly argument. Android has already made it popular. Ultimately it is the consumers who choose which mobile platform they like to use, not the smartphone makers. If some makers decide to ditch what consumers want, consumers will ditch those makers. Dumping Android is not the point. The smartphone makers can dump it anytime they want if they already have a better alternative.

There is a major flaw in the argument presented. The author assumed that all the users of chinese smart phone makers will remain loyal to their brands despite change in OS. But in my opinion OS is one of the major reasons for selecting a smart phone. Many users will simply ditch a particular brand over Android OS.

OS and app market won't do it alone.

Well OP is talking about in China. They have their own eco system of apps similar to American rivals. Hence not a huge issue for chinese customers. Outside china in Europe, competition with android will be harder.

Lastly i mainly use Ecosia for my Internet browsing needs. There are alternatives to google in many areas.

Without android, they might survive in China but will be decimated in other parts of the world.

People are daydreaming here. One of the best OS came from Blackberry and it even had an established loyal base. And still it failed to withstand the onslaught of android. Chinese smartphone makers developed primarily due to JV's Western and Japanese companies phone companies to have their mobiles manufactured in China. Slowly they learnt the trade and established their own brands.

When you take Android outta ecosystem it will be a big blow. I mean look at Xiomi. Its market share is bigger in India than in China. Why the hell it will even move out of android? Huawei does not have a loyal fan base outside of China. But Android does. And other Chinese companies wont give up their market share cos of Huawei or of some reason Huawei is accused of being done.

.
I think the market will be divided.

Android will become like iOS, a high-end phone OS.

While Chinese OS will conquer mid and low market segment.

The problem with Chinese OS is not yet proven.

It perhaps will take several years up to a decade before people are starting to see the potential.

And the time will be reduced greatly if Chinese OS 100% compatible with Android apps, despite no official support.

And it will be reduced even greater if it has a jaw-dropping UI design.

Western smartphone maker beside apple are all almost dead. Same as japanese. The reason why android dominate becos it's the only alternative to apple and install on many cheap smartphone made by China that can be afford by the mass. Now the smartphone android market are mainly dominate by Chinese companies. No doubt. Hongmeng OS is similar to Android but can bypass US ban while being faster. That means ease of translation from Android to hongmeng in programming. Large number of software can be migrate to hongmeng. This means if you make a software for hongmeng, it can be program effortless for Android and wouldn't cos programmer too much time or effort. Plus Chinese always charge other much cheaper to win customers. The licensing with very low fee will be another reason to go hongmeng OS.

SouthK Korea and blackberry OS failed becos they are too radical compare to Android and compatibilities is very low. Software companies having hard time a by making a totally new software just to fit another OS which is not feasible. This can't be say for hongmeng plus they are all back by Chinese smartphone maker. The only good quality and affordable smartphone comes from Chinese companies. Affordable this term is very powerful. It can swing a lot of customers to your side.

Hongmeng OS will succeed no doubt. You think Huawei is dumb not to take the lesson learn from South Korea and blackberry? They are a multi billion companies and they know what are they doing.

See why US is so scared if it? Cos it has the real tech and software that can end US dominate. But US is too late to stop it. :enjoy:

The Chinese government lacked long term planning. They have Beidu search engine but never made it an international one. They have the Beidu navigation satellites, but not sure if they ever made beidu available in any of the Chinese made smartphones. They should have done this from 5-10 years ago. If they did then moving on from Google would have been much faster and smoother.

I am not against Huawei or HM OS. Its the probability of other Chinese companies moving over to new OS which I feel has zero probability. Huawei has no option but to develop its own OS and from what I have read its based on stock Android OS for which they dont need Google's permission anymore. So yes programmers might not have difficulties doing programs for it.

The problem with such OS is, it wont have google support. Chinese might have Beideu for their search engine, maps, playstore, and some social media apps. But Huawei or its OS cannot work with Google, its Map services, playstore, Google play music, Gmail, Whatsapp, FB or twitter or US companies social networks. Whatever Huawei does anymore, its devices nor its OS can work with these apps as support will be withdrawn. Its new OS has to go through approval process again in many markets in Europe, India and many other countries again consuming considerable time without having all these important apps.

It would be interest of global community and Huawei to stop this bickering and do some co-ordination with US govt on this issue. Huawei also needs to come clean on its shareholders pattern.
