What do you think of cousin marriages ?

If we are going to discuss the Islamic position, it's considered better to marry someone outside of the family (unless your cousin is significantly more pious).
Islamic position is very simple and clear. Islam only tell you whom you can marry(Na-Mahram) and whom you cannot marry (Mahram) and then leave this choice for individual to decide what is best for them within those restrictions. We should also be pious if we are going after pious partner whether cousin or non relatives

It's considered preferable to marry a non relative for social reasons, this view is however ijmaa and not derived from any particular hadith or ayah as far as I'm aware.

Quran and sahi hadith are primary source of Islam and Ijam/qayas needed when something is not clear in primary sources. People are creating their own theories or interpretation because they personally are not comfortable with cousin marriages but i personally dont mind either way cousin or non cousin as long as its lawful marriage and with mutual consent :)

.
Cast system , social economic and especially property MGMT (making sure property stay in family) are also factors due to which Easter folks are practicing this, lastly still family making decisions rather than bride and groom

It will eventually end as its medical fact and doctors and research has proved that too many inter family marriage can lead to medical complications for future generations

Why your physician ask for your family history of diseases, heart etc

End of story

i can get scientifically but why morally or socially can you explain pls?
If you get scientifically then you should know first cousins have 25% genes of a blood sister and brother. That means your first cousin is your 25% blood sister.
Now tell me how disgusting it is to bang your own sister?
Even its 1% the idea of banging and producing offspring from someone who is realated to my sister disgusts me.
In my messed up society like Pakistan it is socially acceptable but in developed countries where education exist its a social taboo for a good reason.

.
That 30% statistic was taken from a community where Pakistanis made up almost 30% of that community FYI.

No it doesn't. Stop promoting pseudo science
the report suggests pakistanis contribute to 30 percent of UK's babies with genetic defects... the percentage comparison is not with that area.
30 percent population contributing to 30 percent defect is not an anomaly at all... but thats not what we are talking about.

its not a good point.if its a taboo in the west or developed countries then it should be here also.
Should we follow all western social values or just hand-picked one for our purpose?
I really want to understand about negative social and moral impacts of cousin marriage on our society.
What social and moral benefit developed countries are getting.

Keep in mind i don't want my child to marry a cousin because of chronic disease i am suffering which can transfer genetically.

Also hope you tell the women you are marrying about your disease before you marry her?

I am already married.my problem start and diagnosed after the marriage.because its only me who is suffering so there is a very little chance my child will suffer.but he or she will marry other person with same disease then their child will 75 person chance to get from them.

I am aware of the report you are talking about, it's one of the most commonly spread myths about this topic, it's simply not true at all.

What happened was, they took this 30% statistic from a place where Pakistanis were a significant proportion of the population (Bradford, I think it was) and somehow this got twisted to say that Pakistanis in general contribute to 30% of defects in the UK.

This is simply not true, in fact, Pakistanis in the UK (in Bradford to be precise, cousin couple capital of the UK lol) have a roughly 3% defect rate (rest of the UK has a roughly 2% defect rate).

It's 12.5%, and even then it can quite often be lower.

My dear they are not producing low IQ abnormal people with psychical defects that's the benefit they are getting.
As i said before if you are living in a society like Pakistan you will carry on a wrong thing and do not feel any social taboo but on society cousin marriages has negative impacts whether people realize it or not.
P.S
I am not a fan of zakir naik at all.
He once said if you eat pig you behave like pig. I am eating fish regularly and I am yet to pass my swimming test.
He has a typical dogmatic molvi mindset with little rationality and logic.

Well what if the first cousin himself is a product of inbreeding? With time they will get closer and closer

can you give me a link to the rectified report because I trust bbc, if they twist facts then not sure who to trust..

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7237663.stm

specifically to bradford 2007 to 2011...
http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-leeds-23183102

bradford has 20 percent pakistani but contribute to 45 percent babies with defects.... the next one to contribute are white brits with 64 percent population contributing to 40 percent defects...

Can't find it tbh (but I also can't find an actual study saying Pakistanis contribute to 1/3 of defects), but it doesn't take a genius to realise what a load of crap that figure is of Pakistanis contributing to 1/3 of the UK's defects, when Pakistanis have a defect rate of 3% (as your links show).

If you are unsure on this topic, I'll settle it by showing you what one of the world's leading geneticists has to say, after studying this topic for over 30 years:

http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/end-stigma-of-cousin-marriage-researcher-20120426-1xne6.html

You can find plenty other scientists affirming my claim, the fact that it's still legal also speaks volumes. Case closed.

where does it say 'pakistanis' have defect rate of 3% in the link i gave?
also why should I take claim of one specific geneticist as true... as opposed to mainstream view? in any case he does not assert the fear is unfounded rather its exaggerated... not the same thing.
