What do people of Pakistan think about Gandhi

Harilal Gandhi renounced ties with his family in 1911 and converted to Islam after 25 years in 1936. Please know what you are talking about first.

Regarding the incident, in Gandhi own words to his other son Ramda Gandhi, "Just read in the paper about Harilal's exploit. There could be no harm in his being converted to Islam with understanding and selfless motives. But he suffers from greed for wealth and sensual pleasures. I shall be spared all mental pain if I find my impression wrong and he turns a new leaf.."

@Aether Let me apologize on his behalf.
I take my words back...but he was against his son converting to Islam..he might have sugar coat his opposition with some pleasing words.

Gandhi came to know about his eldest son converting to Islam from a newspaper. I have already quoted what was his reaction after that.

Bull crap...his son became a drunkard unable to bear his crazy father.
I am leaving this thread..we are digressing..I am not going to reply anymore to anyone..don't quote me hereafter.

I cant answer for Pakistan. In South Africa where he lived, he is considered in great light as he took a stand on racial policies which was instrumental in the formation of the opposition that lead to complete dismantlement in 1994.
While he may have been a son of India, we are grateful that he spent a few years in our country. His house is still there in Natal.

i heard he was racist towards africans... called em "kaffirs" is that true or bs.

Dhobi kaa kutta na that ka na ghaat ka..people like Gandhi were more interested to gain popularity and to be called mahatmas...he is neither respected in India now nor in pak for whom he fought (to be in good books of Muslims)

shamefull to see indians abusing their founding father.

in my books - i have respect for gandhi... and hatred for nehru.

Though not much Knowledge on Gandhi but I can say that his role in Khilafat Movement was very Disappointing and Deceptive so in my opinion he was a POLITICIAN like all others who use his Peaceful and Peace loving image for Fulfilling his Political Gains but that can be said about All Politicians in South Asia.

Gandhi was a part of voluntary ambulance corps, a non-military entity, which was raised with some 1,100 men.

The Gandhi being a soldier who quelled rebellions against British part is a myth which has been rejected multiple times both by British and Indian Historians. The whole world knows about the part he played in S. Africa against discrimination.

Many anti- Gandhians in Indian like the RSS types also believe this myth of Gandhi being a British stooge.

Racism struggle by Gandhi in SA was for indians not blacks... it was much much later when ANC and indian congress (SAIC) cooperated in the 40s... when election was won by nationalist party and introduced acts like Ghetto act etc that not only effected blacks but also indians...

.
I respect Gandhi...but he is over hyped for his contribution to India's freedom struggle.

Anytime, I would place Subash Bose above Gandhi.

I have to agree with you here. It is indeed shameful but not to worry his feelings are held by minority in India "Hopefully".

Nehru has a mixed legacy in India, while we appreciate his efforts for nation building, he was an ambitious fool, the worst kind there it is. His quest for international acclaim and led to failed policies such as NAM and his bloated ego was responsible for 1962. If not for Sardar Patel,I don't know where India would be right now.

Gandhi has no place in modern India. I respect Pakistan public for being considering Jinnah as Father of Nation but Indians hate Gandhi. He does not have any place in our life.

<<This is my opinion based on my interaction with Indians>>. No need to judge me on this even though I stand with my first lines. He has been thrown on us, we don't consider him as Father of our Nation.

Gandhi is not hated in Pakistan. However his association and then disassociation with khilfat movement is highly questionable.
We still have Nehru park and Gandhi chowk on Lahore.
If I'm not mistaken, Nehru park has been renamed as Afghan park. Where is this Gandhi chowk ?

He is not our founding father..our country is more than 10,000 years old and Gandhi did not have anything to do with its foundation.
I did not abuse him..my point was he tried to appease Muslims taking Hindus for granted..today neither Hindus nor Muslims have any respect for him..there are hundreds of vulgarnjokes on Gandhi in India.Younger generation treat him as a joker.
For us bhagat Singh and subhash Bose are role models and real selfless freedom fighters.

. .
Thank God he was assassinated else we would have seen another partition.
