mate you took my post emotionally , Read : again

so now you see mate , you took my positive post negatively ,where by i highlighted that Calcutta is a city for all rich , poor ,middle class upper middle class , while in Dhaka you either have people who are rich or you a have people who are downward poor (that's a depressing sight ) & that is why i wrote in Dhaka the atmosphere is of tense & stress while in Calcutta its much more relaxing & comfortable in other words i clearly stated Calcutta is better of the two albeit diplomatically , obviously i have to choose my words carefully , or else you know better then i do ,what type of a sh!t storm i will face here (& i added the word rich now, but really of all i din't expect you to take my post so negatively & completely opposite to what i meant)

Trying so hard to get some thanks from Indian "mates"! :D Almost fell of my chair seeing the effort you put into highlighting parts of your own quote!

@bongbang Biharis / non-Bengali Muslims have always been of dubious loyalty!

Lets give you some example of wide spread difference between two Bengal

First West Bengal
Now Bangladesh

In every thread like this, there turns up a jingoistic fool.

I am glad you have stood up, been recognised, and that we can now go back to discussion.

Though a Non-Bengali

The difference that i find between Dhaka & Calcutta are
dialect Bangladeshi Bengali's speak with a more rural accent ,while their Indian counterpart speak a more urbanized accent , Dhaka People are either rich, very rich or are downward poor (though now their is some assemble of a middle class) , contrary to this in Calcutta it is a much more balanced one , where you have rich ,then there is a very large number of middle class ,upper middle class & lower middle class & then poor (but not downward poor) , in Dhaka you have restaurant's a'lot of restaurant's but they are all very expensive & not for all , contrary to this , Calcutta has restaurant's but they are not that expensive & many can eat there , & then Calcutta has a very vibrant street food culture where , people both from an middle class familes to a poor's can eat & eat well ( Calcutta , after all is known as the city of joy ) Dhaka is obviously more clean no doubt about it , but with an tense atmosphere of stress , Calcutta on the other hand is not very clean in fact , its a bit on the dirty side , but the atmosphere is nonetheless one which is much more relaxing & comfortable , Roads in Calcutta are not very clean ,Roads in Dhaka on the contrary are cleaner but , Dhaka also has a very severe traffic jam problem , Calcutta also has a very vibrant night life for all ,be it middle class or lower middle class Calcutta hardly sleeps , don't know about Dhaka's night life though , so cant say

Pretty accurate. Thanks.

Nobody tag me to this thread :hitwall::hitwall::mad:

Sorry. I realise someone should have.

Nobody tagged me here either, but then again I don't have much experience with Indian Bengalis. I would like to know the difference in cuisine preparation and general use of spices and other ingredients. I used to work at a store/mini-restuarant in Queens. It was owned by an Indian family from Delhi, they were very friendly and it was a decent job. My family got along with there's and we decided to offer them food as gift during my boss' birthday. At first they were hesitant but, really liked it once they gave it a try. Later, they state it was far superior to the Bengali cuisine that West Bengalis made. Now, when I provided the same service to my Indian American friends they all agreed that our cuisine was better. Just curious, are there any certain differences that result in this difference?

Well, OBVIOUSLY Bangladeshi cooking is better. It has more mustard oil, more green chillies, and NO sugar not even in chholar dal, AFAIK.

You need to come down to Calcutta and taste both styles; both are available here, only Bangladeshi is available in Dhaka.

I don't want to comment on other points,But I can comment on this...

Bengali Language has 4 Major dialect(It depends whether it is 4 or 6 or more based on various experts' work) Regions

These are-
Rarh, Banga, Kamarupa and Varendra. But every regions consists multiple dialects

In West Bengal,Rarh and its modernized variation(What they call "Dialects of people living next to the Ganges) are popular. But there are also Manbhum Bengal.

In Bangladesh, their bengali comes under Varendra dialect regions and mainly 2 dialects-Eastern andouth Eastern(under which Mymensingh,Sylhet,Chittagong etc comes) and South Bengal Dialects(Chuadanga,Jessore etc)

These dialects are massive and most people doesn't understand some if not most of others.A person who specks Rurh Bengal will possibly hardly understand a single word spoken in Chittagong Bengali or Bengali from Purulia(which comes under Manbhum).

Sounded sensible, but there's something wrong. I suspect you've got the Bangladesh bit wrong; it shouldn't be Varendra in eastern or south-eastern, it should be Banga, surely? And south-eastern being Mymensingh, Sylhet is difficult to get; Chittagong I can understand.

Your comments about Purulia Bengali are very useful; I went to school in Purulia and the Bengali there is very different, very Santhal Oraon influenced.

Cool it, champ. He's all right. Always been supportive of Bangladesh and Bangalis. It's his point of view, and this is not a competition between the two Bengals. At least I didn't think so, and I'd like to know if you have a different opinion.

Got absolutely no problem with him loving Kolkata.

But his approach is what I would term the "High School Complex". It's when one you attempt to hurl abuse, insult and speak degradingly of a person/ group to find acceptance among a more popular/powerful/populous group.

Not everyone does it consciously. He's probably not consciously aware of it.

All in all, no one likes to hear "cr@p talk" about their cities, especially when it's wrong. Only the "nightlife" part bears some resemblance to reality (or not? @aazidane).
Dhaka has changed by leaps and bounds - he sounds completely out of touch with reality. But then again why does it matter when all you need is a couple of thanks and social acceptance by the majority here, right? :D

Furthermore I do not think Kolkata is any dirtier than Dhaka. There's no metric for comparison.

Bhetki, Rui Katla, - when I go to India, he in the US - i am confined to Mahi Mahi, Cod, Salmon and Yellow Fin tuna. for fresh stuff If the waters are kind on the fishing day, some grilledTrout and Walleye - I miss living in Socal though, especially for the lobster diving.
The joy of living in NYC, i can always go to Jackson Heights and buy fish to my hearts content!! In fact I get far better quality Ilish here than i used to get in kolkata.

??

Aren't you reading too much into his post? I didn't get a negative impression myself. And I have been to Dhaka reasonably often, enough to say that while it is a FINE city, it's different - not necessarily worse, just different.

Why did you get so annoyed with him? I was a little taken aback.

Unfortunately, ladies from all over the country watch boring serials of Star Jalsa, or Zee Bangla. I dont know about ladies of West Bengal.I doubt, they dont watch those boring serials.

Maybe I am. I have a feeling he hasn't been to Dhaka in a while.

Can @genmirajborgza786 substantiate the following claimns for us:
"contrary to this in Calcutta it is a much more balanced one , where you have rich ,then there is a very large number of middle class ,upper middle class & lower middle class & then poor (but not downward poor) , in Dhaka you have restaurant's a'lot of restaurant's but they are all very expensive & not for all , contrary to this , Calcutta has restaurant's but they are not that expensive & many can eat there , & then Calcutta has a very vibrant street food culture where , people both from an middle class familes to a poor's can eat & eat well ( Calcutta , after all is known as the city of joy )"

Can you name a couple of restaurants in Dhaka?

And If he knows Dhaka so well, he must know where this picture is from. Can he tell us without doing a google search? :D

I never met a Bangladeshi in Bagladesh since I never been there, however Bangladeshis here generally are more cordial and social(alaapi) than Indian Bengalis who mostly keep to themselves unless a common friend introduces you. But I guess the respective demography could also be a reason for that.

Not months, weeks may be! Still they are pretty good, I think better quality fishes are reserved for expert market.

Bangladeshi bengalis are genius in nature. Indian bengalis may deny it but every single famous indian bengali has his origin in shujala shufola shoshya shamola part of bengal. Family of Tagore is originally from Khulna. Even most talented pdfians from indian bengal have their roots in Bangla MA. ( trolling )
