What's new

Wg.Cmdr Ronald Afzal Flew J-10 B against PLAAF own jets

No F16s new or old in the foreseeable future

Ooh really :victory:.

We wont wake up until got kicked in the butts.
Hope that works for us and we should go for J-10-BS ( :mamba: Damn I hate this naming convention) :fans:

Sir jee.
What happened after a fairly favourable response from uncle to now going back into a huff? Is it just because we want freebies and uncle wants a hard sell----No compromise? Or is it really that J10B has matured to such an extent that PAF just has to have it. A detailed response would be appreciated. Or is ìt because of our refusal to serve the khadim of the two mosques.

Countries like US Russia and even France will sell war materials related to WoT / counterterrorism like helos etc. F16s could be a hard sell to get congressional approval. Having said that it could still happen. When is the key during lame duck remainder of Obama administration or the new govt in 2017 which could be republican

we do have congressional approval for 18 more F-16 blk-52, I don't think any fresh approval would be required to get this limited numbers of Jets...

Ditto. This was the reason I thought we would go for 18 new ones and levy some more MLUs from them along with some goodies. However 2017 might be a bridge too far and PAF might well have other options which it might want to go down the route of. With the drawing close of the F16 era( PAF high ups should play this card of lamentation now) PAF might want to finally move away from the clutches of uncle. We now need to really work on our aviation industry and develop it further with some belp from Friendly hands.

We on the right path with Jf-17 and it's is an impressive war bird. Follow the trail, Russians and their smokey engines.

I don't know the exact rule but that approval appears to have lapsed as Pakistan did not exercise the option

I think it is the due to cutting down the initial order...Most probably PAF had given a time frame to get the remaining order but once that date passed it was held to be canceled... Now a new approval is required.

I am quoting some words regarding performance of J10B from asian deffence news, Under modern BVR conditions and higher altitude combat, the J-10 is significantly superior to the F-16. This is also reflected in its higher instantaneous turn rates. The F-16 has also been adding weight over time and attempting to counterbalance this with increased engine thrust. However, since wing area remained the same, maneuverability has been sacrificed. Higher wing loading is particularly detrimental for higher altitude maneuverability. The J-10 on the other hand, has all the wing area it could ever need with a delta canard layout.
The J-10 is thus not ideal for the CAS role. However, because of the range and payload advantages, the J-10 can be considered an effective deep striker.

Pak requires a potent 4.5 Th gen fighter for deep strike missions as Mirage III and Vs are not in condition to carry over for long and require major replacements. Even after induction of 5th gen J31 we shall be in need of 4.5 th gen jets. with speeds of Mach 2+ and high flight ceiling. It has following features which perhaps our F16s may not get .

1 AESA Radar
2 IRST
3 Integrated EW suite/upgraded avionics
4 diverterless supersonic inlet (DSI)
5 No strings

(Further we shall require permissions of USA for every upgrade on F16 and it shall also be expensive and cumbersome as USA and EU countries despite Pak anti terrorism are not ready to provide hi tech military equipment providing decisive edge over India.)

ok f16 is battle tested.but for how long we are going to keep this old bird, shouldn't we move forward

Hi,

Fighter aircraft last between 30 to 50 years.

The U S is upgrading between 6 to 8 B 52 bombers to meet the future electronic warfare---this aircraft is older than me and after being refurbished---would last for another 30 plus years.

Hi,

That is true, but we need to see what B-52 is. It is essentially a simple Truck...an 18 wheeler that can carry tonnes of bombs. It was never relevant in the cold war SAM crazy days and neither today with potent Air to Air and SAM systems. B-52 comes in after your high tech SEAD fighters have destroyed this infrastructure, and they simply go in, drop the bombs.
However, over the years 'carpet bombing' has evolved into more like a specific target shoot out with guided missiles. So you don't really need a heavy bomber like that, gone are the days of Vietnam of Korea or WWII where entire cities needed to be wasted. So by it role it can remain in service as long as it's physical structure holds up....whether that is another 30 years or hundred years. Or you can use it as a platform for EW conversion.
