What's new

West Bengal's name will be changed to Bangla or Banga

Bengal or Banga means whole Bengal. Bigger Bengal is Bangladesh, smaller Bengal is West Bengal. No one can claim sole right to use Bengal or Banga;. It will create confusion.

Bay of Bengal and Royal Bengal Tiger will be sole representative of Bengal if West Bengal is renamed which will be opposed by Bangladesh. These things are part of Bangladesh as well. Infact Bangladesh has bigger share of bay of Bengal and Sunderbans where Bengal Tigers live.
Yeah ...
Wat about Punjab? Should Pakistan rename its Punjab to West Punjab and India to East Punjab just to avoid confusion?

Bangledesh can oppose whatever it likes, it's not going to affect the internal functions of India whatsoever.

+ there are more Bengal tigers in India than in BD so your final point is entirely moot.

West Bengal can change its name to Rarh. It's formed by odd collection of geography. Only thing it got unique is rarh. Real Bengal is formed by many regions. Vanga (Which is mainly in BD only), Varendra (mainly in BD), North Bengal region (Rangpur+ Kochbihar+Darjeeling)=> Darjeeling want statehood from WB so is Kochbihar and Rangpur is in BD, In the NE Sylhet is with BD and its part Barak valley is with Assam while Tripura is a state of its own, And Chittagong is with BD. It ony makes sense for them to stick with the name West of Bengal.

There is no need for the "West" in "West Bengal" I agree.

And isn't it great that WB's poverty, infrastructure, development and law and order troubles are all sorted and now their law makers have nothing better to devout their precious time to but pondering on trivial matters such as this......

In case of Bengal it is not just a name change, it is shedding the baggage of a bitter history and moving on.

And in any case TMC government wouldn't have done anything significant with the time they could have saved from not indulging in this....it's actually better if they keep themselves busy in such things, otherwise Mamata will start planning for some new freebies to win votes, and her ministers and MLAs would start planning for some new scams.

Either way it will conflict with Bangladesh.

There is no conflict, the capital of (west) Bengal, Kolkata, was always the epicenter of everything that is considered 'Bengali', be it art, culture, literature, music, dance, language......everything.

Rather Bangladesh may not retain its present name if and when BNP comes to power. Ask the Jamatis.

You could have named your country as "East Bengal" like North Korea/South Korea. Why did you name your country as "Bangladesh"? Bangla is not only yours. Either rename your country as "East Bengal" or let us rename our state as "Bangla".

I can't tell whether you're being serious or speaking in jest.

Must be in jest because while progress has been made in WB re: poverty, infrastructure, development and law and order, is it really 'all sorted'? Those social indicators (health, education, sanitation) are documented to be better in Bangladesh compared to all of India, and WB is only slightly ahead of the BIMARU states.

In spite of Bangladesh GDP being half that of India. Not measuring phalluses, these are facts.

Both of our areas have ways to go in these measures to exceed those of countries in Asia, much less the developed world.

Also - all these improvements came at a cost...discussed in this thread.

Insecure much?

"JOY BENGAL" is the most appropriate as it short and sweet and also Kolkata is known as the City of Joy.
Keep the name short. The world Bengal is very prominent over West Bengal
