One word. Culture.

You need a culture to bowl fast. In Pakistan, if you bowl below 130 kph, you are NOT considered a fast bowler. And forget about the national team, nobody in the weakest of domestic sides will give you a chance unless you are an all rounder or an exception like Mohammad Asif.

India needs to get a damn good fast bowler and make him into a hero so that the young ones start to copy him.

Pakistan had very few genuinely fast bowlers before the rise of Imran Khan. After that, there was a long queue.

We had Kapil Dev. Then Javagal Srinath. Then Zaheer Khan. If I'm not mistaken, all 3 have more test wickets than Imran Khan?

Only Kapil dev has more wickets than Imran Khan.

Zaheer Khan: 32.94
Sirinath: 30.49

Imran took a test wicket every 22.81 balls! And the difference is huge.

And none of the Indians above had raw pace. All of them are line and length bowlers.

My question is why can't India get bowlers who bowl genuinely quick?

In test matches, line and length bowlers do not get wickets. Raw pace does.

Why are you running after pace? New ball's swing is peaked at 145. Above that, the swing of the ball starts decreasing as new layer of air builds up which reduces turbulance. U. Yadav and M. Sharma ball at around 140.

But when ball is old you can swing using reverse tech which requires a lot of pace around 145+ and reverse swing is late and very hard to play. You can reverse swing ball at 155+ lol, totaly not worth since ball is new and the swing will equaly as much as conventional swing at 140 so why waste energy? Moreover now 2 new balls are used for one end each making reverse swing difficult before 40 overs atleast. Anyways M. Shami has best strike rate since 2011 world cup in ODIs fyi.

I would agree you might have a point for debate at least if all your fast bowlers were Pashtun like Imran Khan.

But how is a Punjabi or a Sindhi fast bowler of Pakistan physically more endowed than his counterparts in India?

In Imran's case, not so.

He was a better bowler then all of them 3 combined. (No disrespect to Kapil, Javegal and Zaheer).

In his last 10 years of cricket, Imran averaged 19 with the ball and more than 50 with the bat. And I am not even mentioning his captaincy.

They don't call him the best all rounder of this century for no reason.

Yaar I am a die hard Wasim fan too. The discussion with Rafael sir was about path breaking role models for future generations. Why Indian boys did not get inspired by these 3 Indian greats in similar manner? Why Indian boys got more inspired by Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid?
