yes, but it doesnt mean that the pashtoons are sympathizer to the taliban or want them. in a survey by BBC, only 6% of over all population of afghanistgan were in favour of the taliban.
America will leave after 2012...
america has done nothing good there , terrorists with kalashnikovs have made kebabs out of their sophesticated milatry, its high time US redesign its strategy in Afghanistan
I think Pakistan/US/Turkey NATO can manage Afghanistan , no need to go - more soliders sould be sent in
Ahmad,
Respectfully, I'd like to say these 'polls' go only so far in telling the 'truth'. Public opinion often follows the prevalent 'ground realities'. Today the common-wisdom in Afghanistan may be that Talibans have no real chance of forming a govt. as they had pre-9/11 days. If if there are significant overtures to them, especially by NATO, then you will see things change.
Talibans are my ideological enemies.
I don't wish death upon ANY human beings. But I have to concede that, largely because of India-Pakistan proxy-wars, the Talibans may still have a sort of a come-back.
You should not underestimate the tribal-loyalties. It is probably etched in the Taliban memory what happened to their 'brother' Pashtuns post 9/11. Incidents like the suffocation of hundreds of Talibans in cargo containers by the Northern Alliance are not going to be forgotten. I really wish they 'all get along' but that is a 'wish'.
@Ahmad, isn't it strange that you say only 6% of Afghanis support Taliban, even when they have been in Afghanistan for so many years, and on the other hand a majority of Pakistanis seem to be in their favor, even when they have nothing to do with them???
This is good news hopefully the troop surge will pay off in this time. I also hope Turkey steps up reconstruction efforts and training for the Afghan police/officers/farmers.
But dude, why do you want the US to leave? It'd become a bigger burden on your Army to tackle the Taliban. US might not have been significantly effective in their strategies but at least it is keeping the Afghan division of Taliban Inc. occupied enough for u to deal with your problems.the majority of pakistanis think this afghanistan war as a mess for pakistan which is destabilizing the country, even our government is bowing to american pressure and saying nothing of their leaving..
doesnt turkish people respect the wishes of pakistanis?? and convince allies to leave including turkey??
