What's new

water Bill cost me more than electric bill

I love cats... hate cat owners... especially thouse who let their cat out to hunt.. these are killing machines
i never owned cat but I was staying at a place where they got cats(while traveling), one of the cats took instant liking of me(or so I thought) and kept brushing against my legs, jumped onto my bed.. started purring when I scratched side of or head... they owner told me the next day that the cat is very needy... lol
My mother once gave a proper lecture(lasted about 20 to 25 minutes) to an owner who wouldn't take care of the cats properly...Make sure to inform the owner when you can.

hmm.. it seems they bring dead birds to teach the owner how to kill...
anyway UK is awsome.. everything is cheap here... unless you are used to domestic servants, life is pretty easy here.. you wont know what stress is.. seriously.

everything is cheap here? you have no clue about rent charges and others expenses. I assume you are single
only thing which is cheap in here is probably clothing and foods i.e quality food at reasonable price with exception of meat

poor quality meat of just lamb and sheep
or may be pork for those who eat it but I miss fresh meat of beef and goat

there are halal butchers everywhere, are they not fresh?
you cant have everything of course, the french moan about poor quality bread, poles moan about some other stuff they cant get here.. but generally compared to earning, food is dirt cheap(tesco, asda, morissons, saintsbury).. unless you only buy in waitrose or some other posh shops.
london housing market is broken, rest of the country is more or less fine...

I am not talking about rich landowner class with servants.. they will have better life in pak.. rest ordinary people will have great life here..
you can do a side by side comparison with a pakistani city for an average earner.. I am pretty sure you will get to same conclusion.

.
your tax makes sure we have good living standard.. do you want UK to be like pakistan?
I am paying tv license although I rarely watch tv.. ever. :(

You pay Tv license for live TV even if its just bbc live on website
cost £145.50 per year for colour tv

We also pay TVL fee in Pak for your info. PKR 35 included in electric bill. you pay it if you have electricity regardless of whether you own a TV.

Is that like cable? or do you have to pay tax to own a TV? :what:

Dilemna here is people who pay tax don't even know that in Pak. :D You pay TVL fee as well mate.

Currently TVL fee is Rs. 35 and is in Electric bill.

I did not know this. thank for information 35 Rupees is not bad for PTV :D
But do guys who are self employed i.e shop keepers, barber, etc in Pakistan pay any income tax ? I have seen that people start selling stuff wherever they like in pakistan without any paper work or fees

and here even if you just sell mobiles cases and screen protector then you need permission from local council and need to pay hefty charges for stall and forget about others income taxes and national insurances on any profit you earn

Minimum contribution to EOBI is PKR 150 by employee and around PKR 1500-2000 for employer. Also tax applied if you are above a certain threshold i.e. PKR 400,000 per annum you have to file tax. Many people don't do that though. Furthermore there is an automatic deduction from your salary if you donot file tax but if you do you can claim it.

Hey first of all, you don't need to be jealous if the poeple in Pakistan are getting something cheaper than yours..May Allah protect Pakistan and Pakistan people from the evil eyes of the jealous and "سڑیل" people

Amusing.. where did you get that one ?

Second what you are saying is not true..it depends on where you live in Pakistan. In most of the large cities, there are water meters and I pay the bills for my empty home (except for a guard and his family) in Pakistan.

I suppose you do research. In most large cities in Pak there is no water meters. In khi there are water meters for bulk consumers only (factories). Whereas residents pay fixed charges but there is no meter depending on plot size and construction (G+1, G+2).

Lastly if you say you have a meter please name the city. I would like to add to my knowledge as this I assume is not true.

Third, people in Pakistan are paying more in taxes and bills relative to their incomes vis-a-vis UK or any other country so your conclusion is flawed.

People in Pakistan pay regressive taxes on consumption. Since direct taxation is low, govt. relies on indirect taxation on consumption. Hence people who may have a low income may pay more in taxes as proportion of their income due to high consumption.

your post shows lack of research/knowledge. Cut some slack. To explain simply it goes. Your salary is 84k p.m. mine is 20k p.m. and both of us consume 20ltrs of fuel. both of us pay the same tax. In other countries this type of tax has a low percentage (US has around 18.4 cents per gallon). Here in Pak its PKR 14.48 per litre last time i saw. Perhaps you were referring to this when you said we pay high proportion of tax than others.

As far as individual taxes are concerned, they are higher in salaried classes and corporates. Otherwise it pretty much Laissez-faire. In Pakistan individual taxes are pretty much very low. BTW PA generals, judges are exempted from certain taxes :partay:

I love that word ever since I heard

Islamabad, actually my father pays all the bills but I like to make my share/contribution in that.

You can assume whatever you want.

In Sweden, for example (simplified)

However the tax rate also depends on the county / area.

As one's income increases so does the tax rate but the indirect taxes may still be higher than Pakistan but are relatively low due to the higher incomes and also the education is free and health is subsidised. And whether you are PM or peon, your kids will go the same school.

in u.k people pay tax but in return wages are very high and also very less unemployment so in Pakistan before comparing tax charges with that of u.k we should increase our wages to that level otherwise our population will become more poor and people will sarve

UK i suppose is water abundant country due to its wet weather, why should it need such extreme measures that it costs more than electricity ?

Such measures should rather be applied in india, pakistan etc but here i get water 24 hours paying like 25 $ a year.
I wont mind paying more with water meter if its gonna prevent water wastage.

.
So much bills and charges take half of my salary ..Pakistan is lucky no council tax, no road tax no parking charges no MOT no insurance no Tv license no expensive water bll and few pay for income tax and national insurance so still you guys are ungrateful ..why why why
Lol we have to pay for arsenic laden water what bs you are spewing?

I never faced any water issue in Pakistan no matter where I went and charges were minimum in some societies like 5 to 10 pounds per year . I am not against water charges but it should not be this much to match electric or gas bill especially when they keep recycling this used water ..Pakistan is over populated country and still people enjoy more while paying less for example who pay council tax there or who pay for road parking charges even when places in Pakistan are so congested as we do see in central London where parking charges get double and triple
I live in Islamabad in most sectors you have to buy water tankers now maybe you live in a posh locality
50% of Pakistanis spend half there income on food beat that

.
I have noticed that many people take water for granted in Pakistan where they have to pay minimum charges or don't pay for water at all. We used to have fixed water bill in UK in the past but now bill depend on your usage after they were introduced water meter and I have noticed that my monthly water bill is costing me more than my electric bill and very much same as gas bill so guys do you pay for water bill at your place or its just uk which introduced water meter :(

There are certain legal clauses by using them you can go back to fixed water bill instead of meter.
If you can show you are low income and have two or more kids , you are entitled to fixed water bill. Or just phone them and threaten them to stop paying as you dont agree with the way they are charging you

We prefer the indirect taxation system you pay tax on every service or item you purchase even on everyday edible goods

Because water is being traded in stock exchange in UK. Water companies are limited companies with stocks floating in market and their commodity is water.
A country where it rains day and night all year round, charges more money for water than Saudia where it rains once an year if at all. Average water cost here is 2.5 GBP per cubic meter. One shower can cost you 2 GBP easy.
