What's new

Watch banned film "India's daughter" here!

Btw, there is a new documentary out in the U.S. on the issue of campus rapes which has both supporters & critics for its hard hitting take. Debate - yes, Ban - no.

The Hunting Ground Filmmakers Take on the Campus Rape Epidemic

Did the chinese make that documentary ? ....... besides US has extreme laws on free speech unlike India. Satanic Verses are not banned in the US.

Keep off my posts BHAKT. These are not for maggots.

Posts by maggots are for maggots jihadi. But even worms get noticed by humans sometimes. If only to stomp on them.

I watched the documentary.

@Bang Galore @Gibbs

why was this documentary banned again? Yeah it showed a callous attitude towards something as heinous as rape. Especially the lawyers.

But it also showed the young people who protested, both Men and women as caring individuals.

People who will generalise will generalise. But the documentary did not show Indians as rapist. But to me, an anachronistic attitude embodied by Mukesh, and another generation of people who where horrified who held enlightened views.

It was more of a human story than a story of rape.. Not just the victims but of the perpetrators and their families, mothers, fathers wives and children.. And the down trodden society that make them what they are, And about Jyoti's parents brave people breaking societal taboo's, In a country where female foeticide is rampant how they bought up their daughter with such love and sacrifice, About the thousands of middle class young people that got on to the street for womens rights

I see no difference of the mentality of posters here crying foul over some perceived conspiracy to tarnish India's image or those claiming outsiders have no right to have a critical view on this

For me their attitude is no second to to the defense lawyers interviewed in the programme.. Callous and in total denial

Make films about rape in US military, where what is it 1 in 3 female is sexually harassed? Have that movie made by an Arab for instance and we'll all see how FoE applies then.

What was that movie that resulted in rioting by these Muslims in different country that was made by someone in California? Wasn't that guy arrested and movie taken down? What happened to FoE there?

Besides, you doggedly ignore that the documentary breaks norms and violates terms of agreement as per GoI legal notice. Ironically, you are an example of putting your head in sand and ignoring the problem.

why it is banned?
because it features an interview with one of the psychopath murderer rapist, they say they don't want him to have his say heard but mostly it's just a stupid attempt to try and avoid embarrassment.

fuk governments who ban things, I'm happy to see almost all Indians here and everywhere else oppose the ban.

Then why are they not on streets demanding the bans be revoked? Its an inconsequential video that will be forgotten in a matter of days, only for the legal proceedings to continue.

Things are banned left and right in many countries, this is of no particular significance.

The world pisses over anything new and then moves on. There are too many things of real importance than one tiny movie about a subject beaten to death. Heck, the Charlie Hebdo incident is all but forgotten, silly things such as this video do not even make it a week.

So, lets us see if this movie is in the headlines even past this weekend.

Besides, what happened to why Indians are not out on street if they are so outraged by these bans? That's just your fantasy derived from your little group, nothing more.

Argue the case if you can, keep certificates of where my head is out of this. GoI's legal notice is just that, BBC would have had its lawyers look it up before going ahead.

You have limited understanding. The documentary was made and right sold fraudulently without meeting the obligations. The permissions provided would involve paper-work with stipulated conditions, its not all airy-fairy, you know.

The BBC was informed of these infringements, yet they chose to go ahead. GoI is would be well within their rights to revoke BBC's license. Then BBC can keep whining about it all they want.

Forget about my understanding and stick to worrying only about your own. BBC still won't be liable. Any action by GoI will be subject to a challenge in a court.

Contracts aren't limited to a country, else no multi-national corp would ever be able to do business without serious issues. Setting that aside, my response would be terminate BBC and its affiliates in India and go after whoever ties with them.

They violated Indian norms, thus revoke their license in India. What they do elsewhere is their call.

They violated no norms in India, Indian norms are not applicable to the U.S. or the U.K. which have their own norms. Revoking licenses etc are subject to be dealt with by appellate courts . There is no contract that the BBC breached and even the argument that there has been a breach of contract by the film maker has yet to be proven. Merely stating that there is a breach does not make it so. Has to be so adjudicated. Maybe you should get a better understanding of how the law works before you get all worked up.

of course it'll be forgotten, just as everything is :P

Indians were plenty out in the streets when this happened.

still a stupid self defeating move to ban this, there would hardly have been any talk if they had just let it be shown.

Friend from Canterbury asks me - Is India full of rapists?
Me: Yes. We should be nuked.

Unfortunately the action from your government is not helping matters either.. You put unwarranted restrictions on something people will want to know why.. Even those who never knew of it in the first place

Humans are curious
