Have you ever wondered how construction projects of goliath proportions seem to just pop up overnight in China? It's thanks to machines like this.
This is the SLJ900/32 Bridge Girder Erection Mega Machine. Created by the Beijing Wowjoint Machinery Company, it is 91.8 meters long and weighs in at a whopping 580 tons.
This impressive piece of engineering takes the place of giant, immobile cranes, which take up massive amounts of space in construction sites and require much more difficult maneuvers to operate.
Instead of lifting girders up from the ground, the machine takes these enormous sections and drops them into place from above, extending beyond the sections that are already in place. The process is both faster and more precise than using traditional cranes.
And just look how badass it is.

Its movement is actually a lot more like earthworms where one segment of the body will anchor itself and the other sections moves.
