The recent news of China giving Pakistan technology to produce Air Defence and Ballistic and Cruise Missiles and Fighter Jets and Tanks and other stuff so it would not be surprising that we go for J-20 and J-31 both. Still J-20 is way to big and also until they come up with new engines I doubt these beasts will come

Why do we need both ?

IMO we need a couple of Sqd of 5 Gens and a couple of sqd of bvr trucks.

I can confirm that a formal request for J-20 sale has been placed before the highest office in China. Fate of it will be revealed in time.

I have my doubts that it'll happen for foreseeable future , however, if it does then I'll tip my hat to Pakistanis for sealing the deal.

It is in no way any longer related to the PAF and also there was never ever a secret deal on the J-20 in 2011. Forget that.

Per Janes defence quoting paf, per paf official, paf evaluating both j20 and j31 I have posted it on the forum

Even ACM in a press conference openly said last year when our F16 deal was rejected for subsidy that PAF if not given F16s , has many Chinese , european options including FC-20 , J-31 and Even J-20.

The J-20 came up right before PAFs eyes(the closeness between Chengdu and PAC is sometimes understated). However, I doubt that anything beyond seeing the aircraft as a walkaround was done.

The J-31 has not been looked at beyond airshows and basic technical exchanges. Pakistan doesn't really want a medium 5th gen and would rather do it on their own or in partnership (unless the Americans drop the F-35 into our lap) Right now the focus is JF-17 and the independence and flexibility it is bringing hitherto experienced only in the Mirage by the PAF previously.

There is a requirement for a large 5th gen and Chengdu had another design concept but the Russians had this one ready(Mr. Ma has colleagues from all over the world for short periods of time, a smart tactic to make technological leaps much much faster)

The fifth gen decision is far off, currently a stop gap is needed.
If any 5th gen is to be imported, it will be a heavy air dominance kind and so far only China makes one.

Recently rumor said China made breakthrough in turbo fan blade and innovate whole theory of Turbo fan engine design, make the latest WS15 reach max 24 tons of wet thrust.

So it's very clear that the max wet thrust of WS15 is from 18tons to 24 tons. Somewhere in between. I can claim China is one of the leading countries in turbo fan engine development. Also rumor said the FC31 will fit a down sized version of WS15, the design had been successful.

If I say WS15 can produce 210KN plus wet thrust, I mean serious no joking.

If PAF can get J20, it can dominate the sky of the subcontinent. But as this fighter is an overkill, might break the equilibrium. I have doubt whether China will export it. It's more like a strategic weapon than a conventional one. Too devastating to be exported. Maybe PAF can start a stealthy fighter project and ask technical support from CAC, or join the J31 project with SAC.

After CPEC expect anything and China will agree to sell J-20. Also I am now expecting Destroyers for Navy. Also @MastanKhan If Pakistan can manage take JF-17 to whole new level than J-10 C and other J-11 D and J-16

The program for procuring another aircraft must run parallel to the JF17 program---because integration of these newer aircraft is a bit-ch.
