VN-1 Wheeled APCs are we Getting Them in Big Numbers!!

We already have made in Pakistan options like viper and hamza so no other option is currently being considered. Also currently there is no focus on IFV procurement's due to upcoming induction of VT4 and SH15. Any IFV option will be locally developed not imported.

Pakistan should first try/evaluate PARS by Turkey which comes in 3 different Variants 8x8 6x6 and 4x4. Would be a really nice addition

I wish we can induct them as well, the snag with them is the price tag and German engines.

Transfer of technology for VN-1 may boast our local productions. We will get VN1s from the shelf as well.

I've been an advocate of wheeled armour for a very long time as @PanzerKiel and @Signalian know. I love the 105mm equiped on here.

However, I think purchasing these brand new will be very expensive. If PA does purchase, I would imagine they are coming at a deep discount due to strategic friendship between nations.

There are still tons of Pumas and other APCs available with Italy and other European countries, probably selling at deep discounts after COVID19.

But then, sometimes buying brand new is the best bet, trouble free. Imagine your vehicle breaking down at a crucial life or death moment.

I personally, if I were the decision maker, would have built a mass production plant for the simplest and easiest 4x4:

That would give Pakistan decent mobility and a long term export potential (just change the design enough to not have an IP problem)

105mm gun on IFV is useless in the Pakistani context.

Either get MBTs with 125mm gun or IFVs with 30mm auto-cannon + ATGMs (as on Viper).

There is a move in the West towards 40mm auto-cannons, but such calibre greatly reduces the number of rounds that can be carried.

125mm Gun will make Tanks obsolete and with the advancement in Technology Wheels are now far more practical than tracked systems. The South Africans used the Ratel IFV with a large calibre gun to knock out many T series Tanks without much loss to their own vehicles.

Instead of using T59 in the Tribal mountainous Regions, VN1 can be more Versatile and economical!!

Pakistan is well past large-scale COIN ops, tanks in tribal areas are mostly used as static gun positions. We aren't discussing an MRAP either.

What are you advocating here? Wheels or 105mm.

I am unable to fathom, why we dont create
  • a universal platform with 4, 6 and 8 wheeled variants with a modular approach for use in different roles
  • licenced production of heavy duty diesel engines from Cummins, Deutz, MTU, Perkins or Wärtsilä
Forces should invest in localizing diesel engines. It should be of high priority. Studies should be carried out to commonize the diesel engines for military uses and commercial trucking. We should use CPEC to create a industry of scale for trucks and engines and to be able to make licenced production attractive for the investors.
