Visiting India’s ancient monuments? Prepare for racism

because they have student union cards which they pay for and have some form of agreement....In fact this is not really true even when I was a student (not EU) I paid the same as a EU national around 25 yrs old...All you have to do is show some id which will varify you are below 25...Even my Ukrainian friend who was a student in Ukraine got the below 25 discount...So it is not exactly the same...

I think there has been a big comprehension discontinuity somewhere in the whole chain of posts.


There is student discount available for visiting most of monument (which you have availed), and there is nationality discount available which is separate from student discount.You need not be an student to avail it.

Ok I did a quick google search for this apart from 1 person from trip advisor claiming such a thing no one else on the whole internet has a clue of this?!

Interesting to know I have lived in ISB and well I have not paid a different price than the American lady who was in front of me....And I assure you I look Pakistani enough and she blonde enough with her accent didnt pay a single penny more than me! This was few yrs back though...Not sure if they changed it but I doubt it @balixd @Marshmallow can anyone please just double check this coz this is a first even Quaid's tomb, the gardens and everything else is of the same price for a local as for a foreigner....why Pakistan monument Museum?

Until approximately three years ago , Pakistani Nationals did not have to pay anything to visit national monuments of Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD - Visiting the Pakistan Monument - a national monument that reflects the culture and civilisation of the country and depicts the story of the Pakistan Movement - is no more free now.The Capital Development Authority has levied entrance ticket worth Rs 20 per person to the Pakistan Monument.

I don't know how or why you paid anything to visit your monuments. Either you mistakenly took the tickets which only foreigners were supposed to take,or it does not come under protected monument category (In India too, only monuments under ASI have differential ticketing system.Rest are free ), or you are outright lying here.


Difference in fees is not much talked about on internet because they do not interest much people.I could not even find an official website for any of Pakistani monuments , so travel planners are as reliable source of information as you could get.

For a country that says India is its enemy, it takes a great deal and a special kind of shamelessness as a country and as a people to go to the enemy for medical facilities in the thousands each year. But for something that can be changed, I wonder why this extreme level of shamelessness of going to India for doctors and facilities. I guess it shows the culture.

What a idiot. You need to revisit the meaning of shame. I don't even agree with the figures your touting. No doubt these will be some stupid Indian sources masticating themselves but be that as it may, couple of thousand is not a large figure when probably most will be mohajir;s going back to their roots who also might avail of medical services that are cheaper.

However you don't see the log in India's eye the 230 million starving. That boy is definition of shame and if you are not moved by that it shows your lack of decency let alone shame.

Student discount is for students and even the nationality discount is for students (up to 25 yrs) its in MOST EU countries....The day you go there with an Italian then try to explain it to me not from online readings of 1 site!

Yes we...However, your previous cry was about the entrance ticket for the museum....not the monument...That post was written recently.....and ONLY about the museum....You could go to the monument paying the same fee whether you are black, orange, brown, green, yellow or white!

No where does it state that goray are charged 200....this 20 Rs is for parking and entrance not sure how much it is for museum if it is 180 Rs for museum (which is not included in entrance fee) might explain why that tourist paid 200 Rs and is crying about it....Most locals dont go into the museum after once being in....So they dont pay 200 Rs doesnt mean it is not set for them!

Another thing that I can think of is Mela....When we have mela or exhibitions at the museum or the monument, the fee is slightly different....And maybe the tourist went then...But I am kind of sure there is a misunderstanding on that travel planners where 1 person is talking of the entrance fee (20 Rs) while the other is talking about museum entrance (prob totals to 200 after you add entrance fee)

Because there is a parking fee in most monuments in Pakistan....It ranges from 20 to 50 Rs. As for the ticketing prices it has never been different for foreigners...

Why we need to pay coz we want our monuments clean and nice and maintenance in no place is free

Plus our tourist industries hasnt been booming for a while hence with lazy staff lack of information is expected.

Thanks a lot for this research. I have also never witnessed such a thing take place in Pakistan. I have been to taxilla,pindi/islamabad, lahore and to sikh gurdwaras in hasanabdal and eminabad. (I would have done the research, but my thesis defense is in a week so thanks).

Oh I have been around a bit too...but when I was a kid from Karachi to Lahore to Isb to Sarghodha to Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan .....and nope never experienced any difference but then again that was back when I was a kid...Lately only been to Islamabad hence could say with confidence ...

That is completely wrong . Yes they might be richer but they shouldn't charge any one more than what the fair price is .
