OK let's assume he ain't mentally ill and is indeed a druggie.. So does that mean he meant to desecrate your holy book? He was, after all, burning a newspaper and not the Koran.. The holy verses just happened to be printed on the newspaper and too bad some mullah saw that and went nuts..

I buy goods from shops packed/wrapped in newspapers and the first thing I do with the paper, after I unwrapped the goods, is throw it in the dustbin.. I don't do it because I hate that paper or something.. Its justs instincts..

It's unfortunate Pakistanis are bracketed with India when it comes to attack minority religions.

Yeah India bad India drink blood of other religions. Pakistani very sane love all religions and no hurt any one cause of their religion. This is a fact Luca. I agree.

I wonder why or how these religious pages find themselves in such places where they can be "disrespected"? are they planted there on purpose ? should we not investigate why someone throws them there that they should find themselves in the hands of a person with wrong faith? the person who originally owned those pages, idols etc should be lynched.

Exactly my thoughts too sir. Even in India you find pictures or Idols of gods in with garbage or roads and all no one says sh!t about that. But you talk shit or express your opinion all the religious nutjobs go ape sh!t.

Thats why i was saying that, don't build that big cross in karachi unless until these radicals are not thrown out.
What radicals are you talking about? A mentally unstable drug addict was burning a newspaper, either don't erite verses on such things since they are usually thrown out or don't blame the person. He didn't mean to offend Muslims or disrespect the holy book. The radicals are those who find convenient excuses to kill or maim minorities in the name of religion of peace, that's where you should start pointing your finger.

Pakistan has often seen attacks against churches and Christians, (file photo).

LAHORE, PAKISTAN (BosNewsLife) Several people were injured when anti-Christian mob violence broke out again in the Pakistani city of Lahore, the scene of suicide bombings against two churches in March that killed 17 worshippers.

Christians in the area told BosNewsLife that angry Muslims, some armed, opened fire, ransacked churches, destroyed homes and attacked residents. Many Christians were reportedly fleeing the area.

The latest incident on Sunday May 24 rocked the suburb of Sanda, in the west of the city, after local Muslims accused a Christian youth of burning pages of the Koran, deemed a holy book by Muslims.

Police were seen using tear gas against the mob. Several officers were injured, according to witnesses.

Reverend Riaz Arif of the St. Joseph Church in Sanda said that troubles began when "a christian man, Humayun Masih, was accused of burning the Koran."

MENTALLY UNSTABLE

Sunday afternoon, "Hamyun who is mentally unstable and a drug addict was burning a newspaper with holy verses," he said.

"Some Muslims at the spot caught him. A mob took him to the Gulshan e Ravi police
station for a [First Information Report] IFR," required to start a criminal investigation, the church leader added.

Priest John Arshad from the local Dhup Sarri Catholic Church said he learned about the violence after Sunday mass. "I received the news that a Christian man has been attacked by a mob and taken to the police station," he explained.

He said he soon saw a mob attacking a church. "They were throwing away everything they could get their hands on," he told BosNewsLife. "I heard gun shots."

Qasim Masih, another resident of the area, also claimed he heard shooting. "The situation has been very tense. Humayun Masih is in police custody, there are gun shots and the mob is still roaming around," Masih explained.

POLICE SLOW?

Christians complained that local authorities were slow to intervene, but witnesses also said that police used tear gas against the mob. Several officers were reportedly injured and security forces were patrolling the area.

Local Christians said the situation remained tense. “I just got back; houses are ransacked; all Christians fled," said local journalist Asif Aqeel.

"The situation remains tense despite a police presence there."

Rights activists say Pakistan’s blasphemy laws have contributed to an atmosphere of hatred as it makes it easier for Muslim mobs to "fabricate" evidence against Christians.

In its 2015 World Watch List of countries where Christians reportedly face persecution, the Open Doors advocacy group notes that Pakistan's "notorious blasphemy laws continue to have devastating consequences for minorities, including Christians."

RIGHTS ACTIVISTS

Pakistan-based rights groups Life For All Pakistan and Masihi Foundation told BosNewsLife that they condemn "another act of misuse of the blasphemy law."

They stressed that "It is sad to see that a mob attacks the weak and demands the burning of
a man who is mentally unstable."

The groups said activists "don`t want to witness another extra judicial killing in the name of religion, as we have already saw enough bloodshed and have carried enough bodies."

The rights activists told BosNewsLife that 2015 "has so far been the most violent in terms of sectarian violence and attacks on the minorities in Pakistan."

They urged authorities "to intervene and ensure the safety of the religious minorities as Lahore has already witnessed the loss of lives..." in previous attacks.

MORE SUFFERING

Other groups are suffering as well, said Sardar Mushtaq Gill, who leads the Legal Evangelical Association Development (LEAD) group. He recalled a May 13 "terrorist attack on a bus carrying members of the Ismaili Community for worship, killing 47 women and men in the metropolitan city of Karachi."

Militants riding three motorbikes later fled after killing the passengers near Safora Goath and injuring more than a dozen, Gill told BosNewsLife, citing local government sources.

The Ismaili community is a "peaceful community like Christians in Pakistan and it is sad that
they are also under attack now when Christians have been the target of terrorists," he added.

Gill, a devoted Christian who himself was nearly killed in attacks, told BosNewsLife that his group demands "adequate security for religious minorities in Pakistan" including the Ismaili community and Christians who he said face "massacres" and other violence.

He was burning the newspaper that had Quran's verses on it (this is what this article claims)

Sunday afternoon, "Hamyun who is mentally unstable and a drug addict was burning a newspaper with holy verses," he said.

And in my personal opinion there is no need for newspapers to quote Quran's verses, common sense would suggest that nobody can assure how that newspaper will end up in hands of its reader or user.

He didn't desecrate it, he burnt it, which is 100% OK thing to do.

Do you have any credible source to confirm this, actually now I am confused about this burning part. I remember someone advised me to burn the little pieces of papers with Holy Names and verses. So?

As usual our Indian ''friends'' have once again lost sight of such a tragedy that took place and using it to score points. Have you not seen how many posts I've put up in past threads about Hindu extremists, Murdering, Raping, burning Masajid, Churches in Orissa. This was to say, hey, sort your own house out before you point fingers.

There is always some medical reason when non-Muslim does this kind of terrorist attack! Burning Churches is unacceptable and what is the Government doing to protect them? Then again the Govt don't care about Masjid being attacked.
"Burning newspaper with holy verses" .. wow !

  1. “Books that are no longer benefited from, one should wipe away the names of Allah, His Angels, and His Messengers, and burn the rest. There is also nothing wrong with casting them into a flowing river as they are (i.e. without wiping away those names) or burying them, and this (burying them) is better.” (Radd al-Muhtar ala al-Durr al-Mukhtar, 5/271)

Why do they print Quran verses on newspaper in first place? We all know newspaper go to trash. Isn't it disrespected then? This is no reason for all this. These so called Muslims don't even respect pages with Quran verses. There should be a ban on printing Quran verses on all such things which we know are going to trash.

I was talking about radicals in our community who call themselves Muslims. I am saying exactly what you are saying. Tomorrow they will bring down this 160 ft high cross too for some stupid reason. And that will be defaming for us.

These people are those people who on face book share photo-shopped photos of clouds, apple, animals written Allah on them. They are also the same people, keeping some verses of Quran written on some frame hanging on a wall and bowing down in front of it like Hindus do in front of murati. This is not allowed!!

There are special bins placed at various places where people tend to put the loose pages with Quranic verses written on them. It is reported that someone noticed the accused taking out those pages and trashing them. At any rate investigations needed to be done.

One of the habits that many have is using the newspaper as a dastar khwaan and use it to get the roti etc. from the tandoor in it and when finished eating it is rolled and dumped in the garbage. That page of newspaper can have holy names of Allah on it being part of the names of persons like Abdullah, Abdul Majeed, etc…. or even there might be an obituary and verses of Quran printed on the paper.

Using it for rolling eatables is also un-hygienic as no one knows who sneezed on it or where they were placed before ending up being used to handle eatables etc..

Also in many mosques or religious madrassah you will find copies of the Quran or a Qaidas or religious books in very bad condition and the pages little by little end up on the floor when children read it and so on.

In UAE they came up with the idea of purpose built boxes outside most of the mosques to collect newspapers and religious papers, they are collected and recycled.

Also the tandoors in UAE are not allowed by law to use newspapers for giving rotis to the customers, and a violation fetches fine.
