Vietnam signs 25-year oil deal with Russia

The Dung Quat oil refinery refines 51.1 million barrels of crude a year. Let's say each barrel is $100 usd; that's $5.11 billion usd of crude oil a year x 25 years = $127.7 billion usd. There you have it, this deal is worth $127.7 billion usd over 25 years.

You need the U.S to survive and that's a harsh fact for you chinaman to swallow. The U.S provides you with $300 billion of annual trade surplus. Without the U.S market, china economy will collapse as it losses $300 billion of annual trade surplus.

Exports makes less than 25% of our GDP. 50% of our GDP growth comes from investment. US consumes less than 20% of total Chinese exports. Even if we lose the entire US market, that will only shave 1% off the 7.5% GDP growth every year. Now the Chinese market is replacing foreign markets for Chinese companies and the foreign companies in China are here to produce for the Chinese market and less to the foreign markets. China relying on the US for our economic growth is the biggest propaganda myth ever created by the west.

Russia is weakened by Western economics and politics sanctions due to Crimea annexion. Putin relies on China money and relation. You see they stay neutral and don´t support Vietnam in the actual encounter with the Chinese. No, they are no help. However, thing can change, should it come to a confrontation. I don´t think Russia will stay neutral if China continues its aggressive course or in worst case, rages a war against Vietnam.

as for America and Japan, there are a lot of activities recently. But it is too early at this point to tell which direction the thing goes. I believe the Vietnam government will make a decision soon.

China is the only alternative consumer to Russian energy. Vietnam is an irrelevant consumer. Without China, Russia is totally isolated. Russians want money and they will ALWAYS choose China over mickey mouse Vietnam that offers Russia little to no money.

Last thing Russia wants is bad relations with China. Russia fully supports China in our ECS and SCS policies.

without US market, China economy will go downhill resulting in millions of job loss and social unrest.
your 50% growth rate generated from investment will create products nobody will buy.

irrelevant?

yes, Vietnam is a mickey mouse, but signs a contract of $100b over 25 years, while China as elephant $400b over 30 years.
is China soon to become the largest economy in the world?

Chinese exports to the US is 18% of total Chinese exports. That leaves 82% going to non-US consumers. Exports make up $2 trillion out of the $9 trillion economy. Investment has been the main driver of the Chinese economy for over 20 years. Investment is the main driver of every economy, not trade or consumption. Growth collapses when investment collapses which is why the Chinese economy has not crashed for 35 years as private and state investment always helps creates jobs in manufacturing, services and construction. The 2008 crash in the west was caused as private investment collapsed and thus caused a collapse in consumption and trade.

Most of the jobs in China is created by the services sector which is not that exportable like goods. Services sector creates far more jobs per unit of GDP than manufacturing. Chinese manufacturing is already moving towards automation to counter rising labour costs and increase productivity.

Manufacturers in China now produce to the Chinese market as consumption rises. Those manufacturing to foreign market have moved to lower wage countries. But the manufacturing in China is moving up the value chain and catering to the Chinese markets in every sector from automobiles, E-commerce, PC, tablets, smartphones, home appliances, clothing, toys, furniture, etc.

$400 billion gas deal is just one of 50 deals signed between Russia and China. That's just for the Eastern gas route, but the western gas route will be a huge contract.

Russia will never ever go against China even if we nuke Vietnam. Russia needs China big time and Russia will never abandon China to side with Vietnam. Vietnamese market is tiny compared with China and Vietnam is siding with the US which is a threat to Russia.

nuke Vietnam? are you mad now?

back in 1979, the Soviet Union had deployed more than 600,000 men along the border for the invasion of China. 450 nuclear short and medium missiles were programmed on Chinese cities.

if you haven´t noticed, China was very close to an apocalypse.

come on. you recently invited Russia for joint naval fun game, though you know Russia robbed a large part of your territory not long ago.

China is really a pathetic country.

???????????????????

China and Soviet Union started to argue before 1960 and we fight each other at 1969

This two date are all earlier than 1970, that means we fight Soviet Union before China and US set up bilateral relationship .

When we started to support you to fight US , Soveit Union already threaten to nuke China, Uncle Sam did not like us also.

We did not care to piss off both US and Soviet Union at the same time , and now , you said we are afraid of another korea war .

Your logic is awesome, Can you even convince yourself ?
LOL buddy, you try to prove PRC govt did rightful thing but it's very reluctant.

You came to conflict with Soviet at highest point in 1969, and you can't match with Soviet, you had no nuke, so it's understanding when you want to shake hand with US. And after time, you came to it in 1972.

US 're not stupid, they saw the chance to used PRC as rival at right beside Soviet.
So when the Soviet threaten to nuke China, but US will never allow that, and they say to Soviet back off. ( Remember, Nuclear weapon just can used for deterrent, no one will use it if that's not last card can play... ).

Yes, your logic is awesome, PRC don't care about US, so why PRC need to shake hand them !?
You don't care about US, so why did PRC back off in 1996, when USA send her carrier to near Taiwan strait !?
You don't care about US, why did PRC don't take Taiwan and let her exist from 1949 until now !?

good news: this new russian oil exports are comparable to Bahrains total oil exports annually. A lot of wealth will be created.

yes, but that is just the beginning.

would the new proposed mega oil refinery Thai PTT (capacity of 660,000 barrels a day, costs $21.5b) be built, Russia could have another $100b oil contract with Vietnam. the decision will be made soon. the government supports the project.

No russia is not weakened only because of western sanctions about its actions in Crimea. Russia has been on a decline for a while, since the collapse of the U.S.S.R. The only thing Russia has now that keeps it relevant is its natural resources(oil, gas reserves) and its remaining old arms industry left from the Soviet era. This makes Russia a country nobody can ignore since it has a large landmass, resources and old weapons relics from its soviet days. Its is an important country still, but not as important as it thinks. This is mainly due to the fact that, the world today and tomorrow will be mainly based on economics/economy. Countries with the largest economic influence, trade, market, technology, manufacturing, services, etc will be the ones to set world agendas and influence any new world order. In this regard Russia is still weak economically, and in future it might get even worst, not because Russia economy is in decline per say, but simply because other developing countries are growing at a much faster rate than Russia, and are set to overtake it in future, read India, Brazil(which is already bigger than Russia ironically), Mexico, Indonesia etc are all set to surpass russia in the coming years/decades. In this regard Russia only has its military relic from the soviet empire and its gas/oil resrves to rely on if it wants to keep/maintain its influence.
This is one reason you see the U.S/west still regard China(and maybe even India in a longer term) as more of a threat to its world hegemony than Russia(though we still consider Russia a major threat, but its mostly regional in east Europe not global like China), simply because China in the coming decade will be so much bigger economically that it wont be easy for the U.S/west to maintain its economic hegemonism/influence all over the world. So the 21st century battle will be fought mainly economically,Financially, cyber warfare, sanctions etc rather than militarily, especially among big powers like the U.S and China . Small countries might be involve militarily but it will be as proxies of big countries as we are now seeing in Ukraine/Syria.
As for your point of Russia not staying Neutral if China becomes more aggressive towards Vietnam(or if there is a war), Are you trying to say Russia will support Vietnam against China? lol
I think you dont understand big power politics quite well. Russia has way more similar world views/interests with China. Their relationship is more deep than with little Vietnam. Russia wouldn't even take India's side in any conflict against China(and mind you India has way more influence and is way bigger than Vietnam), and you think they will take little vietnam side? Vietnam simply has no real importance to Russia like China does. Vietnam is simply too small to even count on russia world strategy against the west. I think Vietnam should be more realistic and know its place/position in the world/region. I know your relationship with Russia has been on since the soviet period which you find difficult to change, but the world is different today, no country has friends or permanent allies just permanent interests. Remember China and Vietnam were once strong communist brothers/allies and China supported Vietnam Militarily and economically during the vietnam war(without which the U.S would have fully invaded north vietnam long ago and won the war) but today is vietnam still friends/ally with China? no they aren't since their interests don't match anymore. So Vietnam shouldn't feel like it owes Russia anything, it should ally with the U.S who can provide much more support to it than hoping Russia will take it side against China.lol
There are only 2 options for Vietnam, it can either follow Philippines and Japan example and fully ally with the U.S which i think is the best option :usflag: or it should stop crying/whining about being bullied by China and negotiate a compromise with China on the SCS issue(which it will have to make compromises being a far smaller country).:agree:
I hope Vietnam makes the right Choice, they have suffered enough in the past(being bombed and destroyed during the vietnam war and subsequent border conflict/invasion from China, with their own invasion of cambodia as well and sanctions/isolation that followed), i dont want to see it suffer again by making wrong decisions in the future. Wishing Vietnam/my vietnamese friends all the best.

You do have forgotten one thing. Unlike Philippines, Vietnam is the only country in the SE Asia that share both the land and sea border with China, moreover, in the middle age, The old China Empire had been the lord of Vietnam for more than 1000 yrs, and now, whatever custom or language(70% Vietnamese Words come from Chinese, in the prof area is more than 80%) while we knows Philippines was USA's colony. I reckon China maybe regards Vietnam as a kind of "key intrest" somehow.

In other words, as per your dictum, Vietnam can be a sacrificial pawn in the game of geopolitical chess?
China is more like a queen, and of greater value ?

well i know China colonised Vietnam for 1000 year and much of vietnam culture and language is derived from China. I dont think any vietnamese denies that,But that doesnt mean Vietnam shouldn't watch out for its own interests nor should it be subsevient to China just because it was once colonised/ruled/derived its culture from china. If we follow your logic, then all east Asia should be under China/china should consider Korea as well as a key interest, since china colonised/ruled the Koreas as well. In fact even Japan derived its language and culture from china. but is south korea or japan today ally with China? no they are not. They both look only after their own interests(though i must confess japan doesnt have much choice since they are almost a colony of U.S). Vietnam is an independent country and has every right to forge its own independent path and ally with whom it wants.

In other words, as per your dictum, Vietnam can be a sacrificial pawn in the game of geopolitical chess?

I didnt say China is more of a queen or whatever. Im just making a point that Vietnam should wake up from its dream/delusion of Russia supporting it against China. Vietnam doesnt seem to understand that Russia and China share way bigger world concern/issues, they both want to limit any U.S/west interference in their respective areas/sphere of influence. And they both want to challenge 'U.S hegemony' Unipolar world. Vietnam is simply too small to count for Russia strategy against the west. If anything any U.S involvement in vietnam is seen as a threat by Russia. So i dont think there will be any support from russia on this issue.

Precisely my point. China is of greater strategic value (like a queen) in possible offensive tactics as compared to the much smaller value and often used as a sacrificial tool (the pawn). In this regard, China is Russia's queen in the game of geopolitical chess.

I believe that Vietnam places too much relevance / importance in their relationship with Russia. The latter, merely sees Vietnam as a source of buyer for their weapons and natural resources (which becomes even more important after the west imposed sanctions on the RF).

In my opinion, Vietnam needs to seriously re-evaluate its strategic relationship with Russia.

Yes, you're right, but the "too special" geography location decide that Vietnam is too important for China, or as you mentioned, why did China help so much when USA invaded Vietnam? Personally, I dont Think China's generous help is because how nice China is, but to help Vietnam from invasion is to help China self(stop warfare out of the door).
