Vietnam patrol ship provoke Indonesia Patrol Corvette in Indonesia EEZ

Jakarta fired up over clash with Vietnam vessels
Claims coastguard ship from Vietnam rammed a navy boat seeking to impound a fishing boat in its waters; minister says it will burn dozens this Sunday

There has been a clash in the South China Sea over a move to intercept a vessel said to be fishing illegally. Indonesia has accused a Vietnamese coastguard ship of ramming one of its vessels on the weekend in a bid to stop a Vietnamese boat from being impounded for fishing in waters that it claims exclusively.

The clash saw Jakarta summon Vietnam’s ambassador on Monday, after a dozen Vietnamese fishermen were detained by the Indonesian navy.

The drama also prompted a senior Indonesian minister to announce a return to sinking foreign trawlers.

“The actions taken by the Vietnamese coastguard ship endangered the lives of officers from both countries and is not in accordance with international law or the spirit of ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations),” Indonesia’s foreign ministry said, according to AFP.

Jakarta claims the area in the southernmost reaches of the South China Sea as its economic zone – and the exclusive right to exploit resources.

The navy said two Vietnamese coastguard ships tried to prevent an illegal fishing boat from being apprehended by ramming its vessel.

Indonesian authorities later said the fishing boat sank, possibly due to an accidental collision. They did not elaborate.

A dozen fishermen were detained and remain in Indonesian custody. Two others escaped detention by jumping into the water. They were picked by the Vietnamese coastguard, which then fled, the navy said.

Video circulating on social media purported to show a Vietnamese patrol boat ramming the left side of the Indonesian vessel as the armed navy crew shouted abuse.

Indonesia, the world’s biggest archipelago nation, has been trying to stop foreign vessels fishing illegally in its territory, claiming it costs the economy billions of dollars annually. It turned to a campaign of blowing up captured foreign boats as a deterrent.

Hundreds of detained foreign fishing vessels have been sunk, including many Vietnamese boats – after the crews were removed – over the past five years, with some blown up in spectacular public displays.

The practice was suspended for several months, but Indonesian fisheries minister Susi Pudjiastuti announced on Monday that it would resume this weekend.

“On the 4th (of May) we will be sinking 51 boats, mostly from Vietnam!” AFP said Susi did not say if it was in retaliation for the latest diplomatic clash with Vietnam.

Two years ago, Indonesia changed the name of the southern part of the South China Sea to the North Natuna Sea in a bid to show its sovereignty.

More recently, it inaugurated a new military base in the chain of several hundred small islands to beef up its border defense.

The moves have prompted criticism from Beijing whose claims in the sea overlap with Indonesia’s claim around the remote Natuna Islands.

51 ships from various nations will be sunk on the 4th of may

Stop trolling back or u r violating forum rules too, bro.

Their pathetic warship ran away, case closed.

I just wandering that why some Indonesian here on this forum is very aggressive toward Vietnam. They follow Chinese members to troll on Vietnam. I think they do belive that China is master of Indonesia then China will support Indonesia in conflict with Vietnam.

I don't think that, all Indonesian is slaves of Chinese.

Dear Mod,

The international law does not support Indonesia’s ‘sink the vessels policy’. So, ID Sinking ship policy should be ban to post here or at least thread abt ID Sinking ship policy should be locked.

---------------------
With respect to the EEZ, Article 73 of UNCLOS regulates the enforcement of laws and regulations in that zone. That article clearly specifies that the coastal State may take measures “including boarding, inspection, arrest and judicial proceedings” (point 1), but that “penalties for violations…may not include imprisonment…or any other form of corporal punishment (point 3).” Therefore, international law does not seem to support Indonesia’s ‘sink the vessels policy’ if it is conducted within Indonesia’s EEZ.

We know, but apparently human language and the concept of diplomacy cannot be understood by Vietnamese and their culture. As usual, only through brute force they may understand, just like in this incident where they prefer to express their intention by ramming their ship rather than negotiating over the radio.
Sorry but that is a circus you are staging. Look at the scene. Indo Navy crew shout and unlock weapons. At least you admit you use brute force instead of normal conservation. Sorry ramming here and there doesn’t give you the pretext to resort to guns. Now I read even the top commander of your Navy is jumping into this circus.

Pretty sure this kid is a Vietnamese, his broken English grammar structure is similar to many Vietnamese trolls. His delusions all matched with what many Vietnamese delude about how "awesome" they are, Nguyens talking about Pol Pot, Khmer and Barbarian sh*t. There are only two qualities that Vietnamese trolls always proudly show to people of other countries', that is unbased arrogance and unfounded self-worthiness. Talking cringy sh*t about how they were civilized since 4000 years or some sh*t like that, when nobody cares about it really, people didn't give a damn if they were an ancient land regularly used as China's punching bag, it won't make them of any more relevant in this modern day.

Ooch that particular kid is real Vietnamese alright and apparently I've just bumping into his Facebook account (I better check my browsing history again though). However not all of the Vietnamese posters here is real Vietnamese, some of them even came from HK or US (based upon their IP address)
